    Hello all!
If there is room, I’d like to drop in two of my characters.

Finnegan Bruinsdale (usually called Finn for short)
White-blond hair, blue eyes, 16 years old, and about 5’ 9”.
He’s the protagonist of my trilogy. Compassionate, feels completely insignificant and useless. Also very gullible. And might I add rather annoying😂
He’s from a modern town in Massachusetts and is suddenly dropped into my magical story world.

    Ava Wolfe
Short brown hair and eyes, not exactly pretty, height is around 5’ 4”.
    Major character.
She’s skilled with the bow, which her aunt and uncle press her to achieve perfection with so she won’t die like her parents. She bases her worth on her skill and is aloof. Finn shows her she is worthwhile because she is a child of God, not because of her skill.

A long-hidden tale may hold the answers-and the healing-they so desperately seek.

@lady-grace Welcome!  I haven’t been active in here, and I’m not sure I have the time to juggle two castles at once, but I’m totally fine with it!  I’m not sure how active everyone else is, but I’m sure they’ll be fine with it too 🙂

Compassionate, feels completely insignificant and useless. Also very gullible. And might I add rather annoying😂

Ok so first of all that’s very sad, but I also find it funny because annoying characters are so much fun to work with XD

In my experience, annoying characters work so well IF the story knows they’re annoying and doesn’t let them get away with it.  It makes them so much more real, and also offers comedic moments and character establishing reactions from the poor characters who have to put up with them

Ok! I’ll maybe wait to see if some others respond… 🤷‍♀️ I’m new here so I don’t really know what I’m doing😂

Yeah, it is😔. At the end of book 1 (currently called Bonds: Purpose) he begins to realize God has a plan for him.
Right?😂 Finn’s more annoying in an “idiot.” way, but I also have a character who is more of an comical, always joking (probably some pranks😂) annoying. I may drop him in a castle at some point…

*looks at past posts and the castle’s current state* 😳 I think I’ll give them their weapons if I drop them in… 😂

@lady-grace your brother and sister are in Character Castle 2.0 right now, so if no one responds you could drop him in as well!  It’s getting very full in there, so if you want him to interact, you’ll have to be pretty vocal about him being available and wanting to interact XD  I’m waiting to see if two people respond to my character interaction invitations, but if not, I might be able to interact with him!  Or, I’ll be dropping a third character in once the challenge ends, so he could interact with Finn 🙂

I may drop him in a castle at some point…

IMO those characters are some of the best to have in castles XD  You should drop him in sometime!

I really like that arc for Finn!  What’s this story about?

Yes, I may or may not have been reading everything in there since my sister joined…XD
    Ok, thanks!
I’m not sure what his deepest regret is… I probably should find out anyway.

Finn: “hey! I’m not telling you!”
“Be quiet Finn! You know nothing is safe from me.” 😂
(I love having conversations with my characters😂. I actually spoke to them about my joining SE and becoming a better author. I nearly died😂)

Haha, good to know. I think I will at some point. Maybe after I do some with Finn and Ava.

I really like that arc for Finn! What’s this story about?

I’m currently in the first draft so there will probably be some changes, but currently…
He lives in a modern world and doesn’t believe in fairytales, dragons, stuff like that (he’s very irritated his little sister does😂). Little does he know he’s a couple miles from a portal to a magical world, Gavonia, where he used to live.
His father was killed in a battle in the magical world when Finn was young, so his mother, (who does not have the magical power people from Gavonia do) returned to America.
The magical power is called the Gift. Some have it more strongly then others, but it generally cannot be commanded. The Gift only works if you have a lot of genuine hope. The Bruinsdale family is strong with the Gift, and Finn is the first person in… um… I don’t know how long 😂 to be able to control it.
Anyway, his mother and sister are captured by the witch Holda’s army (which is from Gavonia) because she knows about Finn from Keta, which I’ll explain in a minute. Finn ends up finding the portal and enters into Gavonia.
Due to Holda wanting to capture Finn (thus increasing attacks on the Folk) and Finn’s demands to rescue his family, a war begins.
Through it all Finn is stuggling with doubting himself and believing he’s useless. When he seems to fail in two different places, he doubts himself even more. But as events unfold he begins to realize that maybe he can do something. He helps Ava, a war orphan, heal, saves many prisoners, prevents Holda from turning into a dragon using a young princess’ blood, and saves the war through a seemingly bad (although noble) choice. He also redeems a Keta in book two.
The Keta are Folk who were captured by Holda. They loose hope and join Holda’s army. Because they have lost hope they can no longer use the Gift.

Yep, I’m just gonna leave it on that dark note. Great job, Chloe. 😂😂
    Ehh… maybe I shouldn’t… I know! I’ll describe Holda’s minions, hehe.
The Dintey (that name is probably gonna go🤦‍♀️) have gray skin, elephant like ears, fangs, are very short but stocky, and have floppy noses (kinda like a proboscis monkey).
In attempt to save his life, Finn yanks on a Dintey’s nose during a fight. Sadly I may have to remove that scene. 😂

I should also probably mention they can turn into animals. Well, Ava can. I don’t know if Finn can as of yet.
    And Brian Stansell said…

“I hear snakes don’t like cats. Does somebody have a cat we could toss down there and…” [looks around at all of the glares and frowns] “What? Okay…okay! Just brainstorming here. I’ll see myself out.” 😉

Well, Ava can turn into a cat. A lynx, to be precise;)

    Here’s a slightly more in-depth thing about Bonds👆
Which reminds me… I totally forgot to tell y’all about the “bonds” part. Whoops😅. In short, a main theme throughout the trilogy is bonding through friendships/marriage🙂

I seem to have miss typed your thing earlier so…

    Hello all.

I have disappeared for a while now.

Please pardon my length absence. Life has hit hard, and academics are taking most of my writing time away. I gathered the strength (and courage) to come here again because my boyfriend suggested I check in with you all (he’s also a writer but I don’t think he’s on here).

So please. Accept my apology. I really didn’t mean to leave you guys hanging.

(And I don’t blame any of you if you’ve forgotten who I am. I’m not too easily remembered 😅)

Hi Laura! Of course I remember you and Rúan! I’ve been wondering if you’re okay, it’s so nice to hear from you!

Absolutely don’t worry about it, most people on here have hit the same issue (me included) I had to pull out of all the castles because of school 😅 Anyway, it’s totally okay, it’s lovely to hear from you again!

Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?

Ahw, hey Rose, it’s so nice to hear from you again. (:

And I’m so glad you remembered me and ma boi Rúan. It’s been a while, haha.

and yeah, I’ll likely be spending less time here because of academics, but I’ll be around (:

    @mamaauthoress YOU’RE BACK!!!!

Of course I remember you!  Seriously though, I’ve been wondering if you’re ok, and how you’re doing.  It’s great to see you again!  And I totally get it, I’ve had to take long absences as well.

And how could I ever forget my boi Ruan and his flaming hair?

If you ever want to join a castle again, there’s a nearly completely new set of characters and writers in the character castle 2.0, and my boi Basil is currently sulking somewhere in there – he’s changed a lot, he’s happily single and very much not in love and has wormed his way into a lovingly chaotic family, but he’s still just as bluntly awkward and bratty as ever XD  So, if you ever want to reintroduce Ruan, he’s available!

Also, the castle is…quite a bit darker and heavier at times ngl, but I’ve enjoyed the character depth and the interesting discussions surrounding those topics!

If you don’t mind me asking, what are you studying right now?

(And I don’t blame any of you if you’ve forgotten who I am. I’m not too easily remembered 😅)

Ok, so this might be kind of out of line, but please, PLEASE don’t say that about yourself!  I’ve been there, I know how it feels, but it’s just not true.  Rose and I remembered you!  And I think even if it’s hard to connect with people, you’ll still find people who care about you and they’ll absolutely remember you and the way you made them feel.

Idk if I mentioned this before, but remember the meme you made about Ruan and Basil?  I was having a really rough, discouraging time socially, and I came home, opened up SE, and saw the meme.  It made me feel so loved and welcome, especially during this time when I really felt forgotten and unwelcome.  Like, it’s such a small thing, but it meant so much to me!  Just things like that.

Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that.  I hope you’re able to find more people who make you feel “rememberable,” because I know how awful it is to feel forgettable, and I also know that that usually tends to change depending on the social setting and the dynamics you’re in 🙂

@lady-grace Sorry I haven’t responded!  Your story sounds really cool – it’s got that “Narnia” feel, but it’s also really distinct!

In attempt to save his life, Finn yanks on a Dintey’s nose during a fight. Sadly I may have to remove that scene. 😂

NO YOU HAVE TO KEEP IT!!!  That’s HILARIOUS!

AHW HI CALIDRIS!!! :] That’s just so sweet you guys were wondering about me 🥹

Ahwww Basilllll … that makes me so happy for himmm. ☺️ And I’ll definitely think about it! It’s been a while since I’ve written Rúan (my guess is that he got worn out from me writing him all the time and needed a break because he really is an introvert), but I’ll try my best lol

Oof, good to know. Dark castle, nyehehehe.

I’m studying a variation of different things, but my main focus is psychology!

    Ahwww
    thank you so much 🥺

I have found my people now, I just really struggle with being wanted and accepted and generally included, but it’s lessening now that I’ve found a tight-knit group of friends and an amazing guy who treats me right. Thank you so much <3

Interesting…the character I ennd up writing the most in the castle is very much an extrovert XD

Well, when you and Ruan feel up for it, you’re more than welcome to rejoin!

Oof, good to know. Dark castle, nyehehehe.

I’d say that the overall tone of the castle isn’t dark, but there’s definitely been some heavy, touchy subjects that we’ve explored.  There was one challenge in particular that brought these topics into the spotlight, and so now we’re including content warnings whenever someone wants to include something that could be touchy or triggering to people 🙂

I’m studying a variation of different things, but my main focus is psychology!

Oh that sounds really interesting!  That will be pretty helpful when it comes to writing, too

oh my goodness it did?? Ahw I’m so so glad!!

Oh my goodness it did!  I truly believe that God used it to comfort me!

Honestly, SE in general has just been such a huge blessing :’)

I’ve been through the exact same thing – it wasn’t until this year that I’ve made really solid, healthy, spiritually mature friends, and that was all God’s provision!  I’m so glad to hear that He’s provided that for you as well.  And I’m so glad to hear that you’ve found an amazing boyfriend as well!

Yeah, I get that. And I really really love that kind of stuff, where darker areas of character arcs are explored. It’s fascinating. I’ll be sure to check it out. 🙂

Oh that sounds really interesting!  That will be pretty helpful when it comes to writing, too

Oh yeah! Totally! And I believe I’m called to help people who are in emotional or mental distress, to be a refuge for people who have none, and to do that, I must learn about the inner workings of the human being and why we do the things we do 🙂
