Anyone want to word war? Today I can actually, you know, write. 😛

@anne_the_noob14@naiya-dyani Those are awesome flowcharts XD
@hope-mcclellan @tashah-claymore @everyoneelseOomph… I have (well, I don’t really, but it would be well for me) to write a short story before 1 PM tomorrow… And I have no plot, no characters, nothing. I hate forcing stories on myself. I prefer to wait to write a new one until I have inspiration. Buutttt…. I have no inspiration. So. 😑

@hope-mcclellanWowza! Part of me is a little confused because you have to but you don’t…? But if you really need help, I may have a few ideas.
Sometimes inspiration strikes already set with a vague plot and/or character. This happens to me quite a bit with prompts. You’re a writer so I guarantee you have a list of those somewhere. 😉 Another good place is songs. There is a guy called Tommee Profitt, and he does these cinematic songs, quite a bit of them have words, being that they have some sort of a story to go with it. I’m not a huge fanatic of his work, but everything I’ve heard so far is clean. I did save one of them as inspiration.
Or, something I am doing for the first time, I have taken a short, little-known Grimm’s Fairytale and am rewriting it as a short story. The Grimm brothers have written SO MANY stories, most of them pretty short. By taking one of those, I was already given a plot and (underdeveloped) characters that I just tweaked to make my own. I personally am doing this; just started a couple days ago. 🙂
I hope that this gets the ball rolling for ideas.

@anne_the_noob14*grins* Well, it’s for a project my writing club is doing, and Mrs. K is really laid-back about it. She’d be totally fine if I don’t come up with anything, but she (and I) would prefer me to have something in the collection the club is working on. And the collection isn’t limited to prose. I could do a poem, drawing, song, or even a clay sculpture, just so long as it goes along with our guidelines. (Ever heard of a Town Project? Basically you decide on the name of a city and everybody writes a story centered there. That’s what we’re doing. Except we can do things besides, like I said, prose.)
So anyways.
*nods* Yep. I have a Pinterest board (three actually) dedicated to prompts. I have one that’s for general prompts, one for character prompts, and one for dialogue prompts XD Ah, songs… I started something like that once, and it kinda petered out. *shrugs* I still have it somewhere so maybe I should pull it back out…
Now… I’m actually not a fan of re-told fairytales XD Not that I dislike them, I’m just not a fan. 🙂 So I won’t be doing that. But I do think it’s a cool thing to do, so don’t feel like I’m trying to smash down your story!
Thank you! I think I’m gonna go look through my prompts and see if anything jumps out at me. 😀

@hope-mcclellanAhh, I see. That’s neat!
*thumbs up* I gotcha. And I totally get it. Not everything works for every human being on the planet. That’s the beauty of it, I suppose. Everyone is a little different. 🙂
Let me know if you find/come up with anything!

@anne_the_noob14Heyo! I have an idea now! I was complaining to my younger brother (he’s 11) about it and he was playing around with a pocketknife our granddad gave him, and said “Write about this knife.” So then that got me thinking… what if I came up with some sort of artifact or something that is owned by somebody, then write a story with that person as the MC, and write about them looking further into this thing they own. So a blacksmith has a sword his father gave him, and the design is unlike anything he’s ever seen. He shows it to other blacksmiths in his country, and they’ve never seen anything like it before either. So then he starts traveling all over the place searching for the origin of this sword. Or something similar to that. I was just giving that as an example. Though… now that I write that out I’m warming to the idea of a sword XD
Thing is… NO. WAIT. HAHAHAHAHAHA. I gots an idea 😀 😀 😀
Heh.
Ok.
Cool.
Alrighty. So anyways, now I’ve got me an idea. But I need a name for my blacksmith… Ideas?
This is gonna be set in kinda medieval-ish times, probably 1100 AD -ish. I’m debating with myself about the age/looks of my blacksmith. Part of me wants him to be fairly young and really young-looking. So like he’s 30, but he looks 21. That’d give people reason to not really take him seriously cause he looks like a kid. But the other part of me wants him to be older, around 50-60, pretty grizzled and scarred from his job, and pretty intimidating to someone who doesn’t know him well.
Aaaaand I gotta keep in mind that this is a short story I’ve gotta write in a day XD Although, I know Mrs. K would be fine with me taking another week. Cause the rest of the stories need more work anyways. So… *narrows eyes* Hm. Never mind that then lol.
But yeah, if you’ve got any name ideas, that’d be awesome! And don’t worry if you have tons or just a few lol cause I have none right now XD

@anne_the_noob14*smiles through tears* I have an outline already :’)
*breaks down in more relieved/grateful sobs*
This never happens. I always have a ridiculously hard time with outlines. So much so that I never use them. I’m a pantser all the way. But I have an outline now XD
Granted, it’s only nine sentences. But it’s a full outline. As much of one as I need.
Also, here’s the last line of the story (yes, I have the last line written XD):

@hope-mcclellanOoh, nice time period! I am a huge medieval times nerd. 😉
Depending on how era specific you are trying to be, you may not even give him a last name. Last names were not coined until late in the middle ages, or it may have even been into the Renaissance. I don’t remember exactly. But especially as early as the 10th century people were known by their parentage, just as you read in the Bible. (Ex: John, the son of Zebedee).
I don’t have a specific list of names for that time period on hand, but I know you can Google Medieval boy’s names and find huge lists.

@anne_the_noob14@tashah-claymore Thank you! 🙂
*starts crying again* So many names… :’)
@hope-mcclellan *grins* Me too! 😀*nods* And then sometimes they’d have last names according to their profession, right? Like Ironsmith (have some friends with that name actually), for example. When did that start being a thing? (Another example that comes to mind from the Bible is Alexander the coppersmith.)
Ah yes… the great Google XD
Thank you! 😀

@anne_the_noob14Where did you find all the names? Are some of ’em made up, some from the good ol’ Google…? They’re awesome 😀
I really like Cocidius and Vulferam… They both sound a bit too flashy for my blacksmith, but I can see myself using them in another WIP… *gasps* OOOOOO WAIT!!! 😀 😀 😀 I have two characters in my main WIP (the one I’ve been working on in the word wars, with Greyl and Dharin) who still need names. And they need flashy ones 😀 Heh. *Rubs hands together and prepares to steal all your names*
*reads back through the list*
Ooh. Gislin. I like it….!!! May I use it for my blacksmith?? 😀 I may play around with the spelling a bit. Gislen, Gislan, Geslin, Gaslin, Gislan…

@hope-mcclellanYep! Names based off of occupation came about both for first and last names. The name Carter literally means “cart driver”. I’m not sure exactly when that became a thing. I’m at work and my book for this sort of research is at home.

What book do you have?
