Nice to meet you too! And yeah I joined a couple of months back, but haven’t been on for a while just cuz of school stuff. But now…Thanksgiving break! *happily tosses school book out the window and into the grass where it shall remain for the next 9 days*
Oh yeah, I can see how an undo button would be nice. Eraser smudges get very annoying. Especially once you erase so much you start tearing holes in papers…(totally not bitter about drawings being ruined from that haha).
Oh cool! You paint? My sister does watercolors but I’ve never quite been able to get the hang of it. Unless you count painting abstract art, which is essentially me putting a canvas on the grass and flinging paint at it like a mad woman. It’s very fun. Also very therapeutic. ๐
No, I don’t have a website or social media where I post them. I’m trying to get a thing I drew a couple weeks ago to upload, though I’m having a very difficult time of it. XD

November 21, 2020 at 3:56 pm #121897Brooke@wingiby-iggibyExactly! The more I learn, the more I realize I still need to learn a whole lot more ๐ And thank you! Actually, most of it is in my head rather than paper (or google docs, ha ha) so it’s easy to come up with a lot by randomly coming up with ideas. But I would think comics would take longer bc you have to not only come up with the story, but you also have to visualize everything really well and then draw it; which for me, would take an eternity. Is that how it works?
The Brume sounds so cool (a place named after mist has gotta be cool)! I love that synonym (I am constantly looking up synonyms for words bc I love synonyms).
Stories (especially fantasies) are meant to try and untangle our complex and quickly degrading-into-sin-and-calamity-and-evil world. Stories that are heartfelt and focus on real feelings and troubles make it much easier to connect with. I love that quote by AP that you mentioned to Deeprun, and yes, when you tell the truth it makes it so much better! ๐ False stuff just makes you want to tear that page out of the book (I would never,ย everย do that, though . . . even it was terrible ๐ )
Also, I love your characters; they are so cute!!!! I love that style! I really hope you can publish that book someday, bc I would totally read it. ๐ (and their names are awesome!)
As for The Westing Game, I’m going to copy off the synopsis from the back-cover of the book (by Ellen Raskin) bc it says it a lot better than I could. I will say this though: in the beginning, you take the characters lightly, but by the bittersweet end you realize how much you really cared for them.
A bizarre chain of events begins when sixteen unlikely people gather for the reading of Samuel W. Westing’s will. And though no one knows why the eccentric, game-loving millionaire has chosen a virtual stranger — and a possible murderer — to inherit his vast fortune, one thing’s for sure: Sam Westing may be dead . . . but that won’t stop him from playing one last game!
It is funny, clever, and awesome. I totally recommend it.

Shoot that fire right through my soul.November 22, 2020 at 1:39 pm #121918Lona@lonathecatYayyyy I finally got it upload. XD (My tech skills are about level zero.)
So, this is in charcoal which is why it’s super smudgy haha. Anyways, the guy on the left is an OC of mine named Offo, who is an elderly alchemist and loves gardening. The guy on the right is just some Irish-inspired warrior guy.
November 22, 2020 at 3:36 pm #121922Mischievous Thwapling@mischievous-thwaplingI know you weren’t talking to me, but can I just say: THAT IS AMAZING!! I love your style so much.
@the-fledgling-artist (I’ll try to keep this short since so many people are already talking to you XD)WE DO!! So much in common…
Lol, I get that.ย I make up annoying fragments as I go, too, so I have to patch it together, which can be super annoying.
WE HAVE EVEN MORE IN COMMON! I’mย reallyย reallyย bad at explaining stories/movies/books to people, even if they’re not my own.
Sure! That’ll work swell. Okee dokee, first question about your wip: What genre is it?

Yeah, haha, I paint a little. I liked watercolors, though I’ve really fallen out of practice with them, so usually when I get them out it’s more for the therapeutic feeling of making a mess, haha. Acrylic paint is pretty cool, but I never really got the hang of them.I like your charcoal drawing! Imo you are actually not at level zero X’D But I’m not a professional so obviously, I don’t know anything lol. Offo is a cool name. B)
@wingiby-iggiby
… Yeaaahh.. comics definitely take a long time. x’D I mean, professionally/ideally you have a team to work on it, so you have someone(s) working on the script/story, and someone on the sketching, and someone else on the color flats, etc etc. But, at the same time, you can honestly put as much or as little effort/time into comics. Yk? They can be pretty lowkey, or they can be more intense, depending on what you put into them.Thank you for the kind words and flattery. x3 I am actually pretty happy with the character’s names, but tbh that’s usually one of the easiest things to get right, haha.
The Westing Game sounds fun! Kinda gives me 39 clues vibes, and younger me really liked those books. Most of the reading I do nowadays is actually nonfiction, so I probably won’t find the time to read it, but if I happen to cross paths with it, I might pick up a copy. Do you have a favorite character from the series? What about them makes you like them best?
@mischievous-thwapling
My dude, you can totally talk my eats off as much as you want. Sometimes it just takes me a while to respond because I’m usually really tired. XDAs of now, it’s definitely fantasy. It’s also very much an adventure/quest type story. And as a side/sub-genre it’s probably a drama, haha. Idk, what even are genres at this point XD How about yours?? (Did I already ask that??)
Also, how many protagonists/secondary characters are in it?"Though I'm not yet who I will be, I'm no longer who I was."
November 23, 2020 at 9:24 pm #121988Mischievous Thwapling@mischievous-thwaplingSame! And since I’m involved in a lot of threads on SE, I always feel guilty if I reply to one but not the other, so I’m always planning out a good time when I have time to respond to ALL of them XD
Ooooh, sounds exactly like the kinda book I would read! No, you didn’t ask it already XD Hmmm, I suppose mine’s some sorta fantasy thingy. I’m still plotting, so I’m not quite sure, but I guess there might be bits of a murder-mystery genre thrown in there.. Dunno XD
Uhhh.. Lemme think. *counts on fingers* As of right now like 3-and-a-half-and-like-two-quarters.. (Okay, that sounds really confusing XD It’s kinda cause I’m trying to figure out how many of those second characters I need for the whole story, but there’ll always be a solid three of protagonists (I think XD) HBU??

November 23, 2020 at 9:45 pm #121994Lona@lonathecatNice! What do you like to paint?
so usually when I get them out itโs more for the therapeutic feeling of making a mess
Next time my sister nags me about cleaning our room I’m just going to be like, “this is my therapeutic mess. Don’t you feel calmed?” XD
Thanks! And fine haha not level zero tech skills , but definitely very close to it. ๐
Aw thanks, Thwapling. ๐

Oooohhh, fantasy-murder-mystery ?? Sounds intriguing! Are you still working on it? :O<"Though I'm not yet who I will be, I'm no longer who I was."
December 28, 2020 at 7:26 pm #123252Mischievous Thwapling@mischievous-thwaplingYup. Still in the early stages. (I haven’t gotten much writing done, with the holidays and all) Have you made any fun progress with your WIP?
"I threw stones at the stars, but the whole sky fell."
December 30, 2020 at 9:04 pm #123362The Fledgling Artist@the-fledgling-artist@mischievous-thwapling Yes, but also not really X’D I guess it depends on what u mean by progress. I sorta had a breakthrough when I realized several different story ideas I’ve had floating around in my brain would fit really neat into the same world. So that sparked a lot of ideas related to worldbuilding. But honestly, it’s all still in the super-early-baby-stages still. Like, I doubt I finish anything within the next 3 years, if not longer, haha.

January 13, 2021 at 6:28 pm #123800Mischievous Thwapling@mischievous-thwaplingSo cool!!! Ah, I totally get that…. The only real progress I’ve gotten done is figure out some detailed backstory/world-building. Oh, well.
Anything interesting happening in thine life?

February 10, 2021 at 7:54 pm #124771The Fledgling Artist@the-fledgling-artist@mischievous-thwapling hmm… anything interesting?? well, i am of the opinion that everyone’s life is incredibly interesting because the unfamiliar is intriguing. XD Personally my life is pretty bland to me. But I guess you might find interest in my mundane.
Tonight hail and freezing snow are tapping against my window. The sky is dark but it’s still kind of blue.. bluey purpley? Indigo? Yea we’ll go with indigo, haha.
I live on a steep driveway, so I might not be able to get out to go to work in the morning. I really like my job, but I’m secretly hoping the ice is too much for the vehicle to handle.
I had zucchini for supper, and hot tea. I really like hot tea. ๐ I usually drink green tea because it’s so healthy for you and it’s nice, but it also has a lot of caffeine in it, so I had a chai tea instead.ยbut chai tea is black tea, and black tea also has caffeine, so,<-> idk rn I’m just kinda vibing and listening to music, tryna ignore my existential thoughts.ย lolol. How have you been doing? ๐ What seemingly mundane things have you been up to?
