@emgc This is so good! Butterflies are crazy hard for me to draw, or paint for that matter. 😀 As for shading.. a good exercise for that is something called a “still life” which just means drawing some inanimate objects. Like, an apple, or a cup, or something random. Using black and white will help you not to get distracted with color, and help you focus on values. Try to teach yourself to spot the basic shapes within an object, like ovals, circles, cylinders, and boxes. When you learn to shade these basic shapes, and you learn to spot the basic shapes within more complex shapes, it will be easier to shade the complex. 🙂 (This is at the very least true for me, I’m not an expert though!) I hope I wasn’t too confusing. I have a tendency to do that. 😉
@dekreel That is so amazing. :’D I love it. Can’t wait to see your redraw!!"Though I'm not yet who I will be, I'm no longer who I was."
January 7, 2019 at 11:31 am #70029Evelyn@evelyn@emgc Beautiful! What medium did you use for the second one?
(Also I love your profile picture. 🙂 )
Evelyn, your little post of ancient drawings made me laugh my eyes out. Well done. I loved it all.
Ooh dear… laugh your eyeballs out? *grimaces* How are you supposed to be able to draw now? o.o
😉
Glad to hear it. xD
And I can’t wait to see what you come up with when you re-draw that picture!! 😀

Thank you. 🙂 For the second one I used a black charcoal pencil for the body and edges of the wings, and then I used watercolors for the wings.
(And thank you. That’s my nephew. 🙂 )
No, that made perfect sense! Thanks so much for the tips. 😀 I’ll have to use those.

@thetessinator Good job!! I think the eyes on the second one look a little awkward but otherwise I can tell you’re improving! 😀ENFP-T. Cartoonist, "half-writer", wolfish.

January 19, 2019 at 5:51 pm #72752Evelyn@evelyn@the-fledgling-artist I hope you don’t mind if I bring painting into this thread. 😉Â
….
So for my tenth birthday my Grandma gave me a set of acrylic paints. I painted for a couple years and was TERRIBLE. Like beyond your imagination. I thought I was amazing though. 😛 XD
Anyways, the paints had to be packed up a couple years ago (the crazies of a move three years in the coming) and I just got to pull them out again, and repainted one of my older paintings today.
Critiques are by all means welcome!! 😀
(P.S. @the-fledgling-artist I read Story Thieves and it’s first sequel. :))
January 19, 2019 at 8:27 pm #72792The Fledgling Artist@the-fledgling-artist@evelyn Wow! You’ve improved so much!! Way to go! 😀 I’m not very good at critiques, but maybe you could work on your values in the future? Something ik I’m not great at is pushing my darks as dark, and my lights as light as they ought to be.
AAAH WAT DID YOU THINK OF IT?? (feel free to roast it if you’d like. I shan’t be offended haha.)

January 19, 2019 at 9:28 pm #72794E. Grace@emgcI love it, @evelyn! The colors are beautiful on the second one. I’ve not really tried acrylic paints before, but my sister is pretty good with them.

January 20, 2019 at 9:26 am #72824Evelyn@evelyn@emgc Thanks!
@the-fledgling-artist Okay!And I LOVED it. XD
It was a lot of fun and really creative. Plus some of the stuff was just hilarious! Him making fun of himself and authors in general? And then Nobody? It was loads of fun. xDD
January 20, 2019 at 9:32 am #72826The Fledgling Artist@the-fledgling-artist@evelyn Yesss!! I’m glad you liked it. 😀 😀 Who is your favorite character so far? Have I mentioned that book 2 is one of my favorites in the series? <3

January 20, 2019 at 9:35 am #72828Evelyn@evelyn@the-fledgling-artist You hadn’t mentioned that! 🙂
Maybe favorite character would probably be nobody … I mean Nobody. 😉 Probably just because the idea behind him is so neat and he’s so mysterious and intriguing.
