Hello!
This is Shira/ @WisedomOfProse! I’ve been fairly busy lately, (hence, my disappearance) my apologies. At any rate, a friend of mine opened a group on the Band app for NaNoWriMo/Writers recently! If you’re interested, here is the link to join! 😀 And if you know anyone else who might be interested, please forward!

Hope you all have an amazing day! <3

October 20, 2021 at 8:53 pm #142960Noah Cochran@noah-cochranHey Shira, I don’t think we’ve met. How long have you been writing? What’s your WIP about?
I’ve been considering NaNoWritMo, but my first draft is nearly complete so I’m afraid I will run out of word to write. xD We’ll see though.
October 21, 2021 at 3:12 am #142969Rose@rose-colored-fancyHi Shira! I’m Rose, pleased to meet you!
That looks really cool! We’re planning to (probably) have a NaNo thread here on SE, but I’ll look into yours too, it looks fun!
So, do you just post about your WIP there? (I’m always up for ranting about my characters 🙂 ) Or is it to track your word count during NaNo?

October 21, 2021 at 4:57 pm #142986WisdomOfProse@wisdomofproseHello! No, I don’t believe we have. It’s a pleasure to meet you! 🙂
Awww, thanks for asking. 🙂 I’ve been writing more officially since about five or six years ago.
I’m currently working on a novella set in 1930’s Stalinist Russia. Basically, it’s about a U.S.S.R. celebrity actress on a mission to expose the atrocities of Stalin’s man-made famine of the 1930’s. (And in case you were wondering, no, I am staunchly against communism, rest assured, hahaha)
You are more than welcome to join our group! I don’t think it’s exclusively for NaNoWriMo, (honestly, I’m only writing a novella) and it was really created to have a support group of sorts. So it’s completely up to you. 🙂
What is your WIP about?
Rose, I’m delighted to meet you! (Also, your profile pic is absolutely lovely!)
Oh wonderful! I’ll be on the lookout for the group. (If I don’t join, it’s simply because my schedule is a bit hectic just now and I can only take a group at a time!)
Awww, thank you! Yes! Because we use Band, people can post polls, videos, and even quizzes, (I don’t know if we will do it, but it even allows for voice and video group calls), which kinda livens things up. Like I told Noah, I think it’s more of a support group because we’re probably not closing it after November. So you can post something about wanting help brainstorming or how many words you wrote, etc. Honestly, it can even be a poll as to whether you think fantasy should always be trilogies. Right now we’re very small (there are only six of us currently), but you’re more than welcome to invite others! 😀
I’d love to hear about your WIP!

October 21, 2021 at 5:31 pm #142987Noah Cochran@noah-cochranIt’s been about 4 months since I’ve started, didn’t know a thing about writing until last June, so I’m a newbie. 😄

I’m intrigued Shira, keep me updated on its status. 🙂 What got you interested in this time period? Do you like Cold War history?
I love medieval setting and history, and that inspired the stand alone novel I’m working on set in the late 13th century France. It’s called The Thief’s Dilemma, and starts off with a skilled young thief being recruited by a group of desperate individuals who want to pull of a rather daring heist. 🙂
Honestly, it can even be a poll as to whether you think fantasy should always be trilogies.
For some reason, I found that quite amusing. 😂

Oh, thank you! It’s a character design for a possible future project! (Or she might get her own short story based on the three drawings, I don’t know yet 🙂 )
Oh wonderful! I’ll be on the lookout for the group. (If I don’t join, it’s simply because my schedule is a bit hectic just now and I can only take a group at a time!)
I get that feeling, I already spend time here that I should be writing XD Look forward to hopefully seeing you around!

That’s so cool! I’ll look into it! As you mentioned, it’s kinda hard to be active in two groups, so I’m not sure I can join, but thanks for inviting me!
I’d love to hear about your WIP!
Awesome! I’m writing a fantasy trilogy (Yes, fantasy is best in trilogies, I’m not taking constructive criticism on that XD) set in an alternate Medieval North Africa! The elevator pitch goes something like this: Liorah, the princess of a desert tribe, has to attempt an impossible mission to rescue her brother from an old enemy before the entire country dissolves into war.
I’ve drafted the first two books, and am about halfway through rewriting the first. (I plan to finish that this NaNo!) After that, I’ll probably draft book 3 before plunging back into revisions.
Your WIP sounds awesome! I love the stakes you’ve already set up, it sounds fascinating! What’s your favorite part about your WIP and at what stage are you?

November 20, 2021 at 9:39 pm #144224WisdomOfProse@wisdomofproseOh my goodness, I am so terribly sorry about the tardy reply!! :O I can’t believe it took me so long to get back to y’all! 🙁 Again, apologies, my schedule has been terribly busy.
Oh, that’s wonderful that you’ve written so much in surprisingly little time! Welcome to the rollercoaster world of writing! 🙂 What’s been hardest for you to learn?
I’m so glad you found my premise interesting! 🙂 I actually became interested in the time period after reading Albert Marrin’s biography of Stalin. It’s very engaging and vivid, without being overly gruesome. I highly recommend it. 🙂 I don’t know that I enjoy the Cold War so much as the 30’s in particular, probably because it’s not as written about as the forties, though it set everything up for the following decade. (You ran into a history geek here! Hahaha!)
Oh that’s awesome! I actually have not studied that period very much at all. I’ll have to look it up! Oooh interesting premise! What are they trying to steal?
Hahaha! Glad you found it funny. Literally off the top of my head. 🙂
She’s lovely! If you don’t mind, I might borrow her for character inspiration for a short story myself. 😉 (The new one is lovely, too!)
Hahaha! Yes, I can completely relate to that feeling! I try to not answer too often for that reason and I turned off email notifications XD So feel free to join or not join, it’s completely up to you! 🙂
I love your premise. Hahaha! Actually, I personally tend to favor novellas over novels and standalone or duologies over trilogies. 🙂 But that’s just my opinion. Wow! Congrats! That’s amazing! I hope the rewriting goes phenomenally well. 🙂
Thank you for asking! I’m currently 10,000 or so words into my novella. Gee, my favorite thing is probably the characters and the dialogue. I also love writing scripts and doing theater, so those things go together extremely well. I enjoy having my characters “improvise” on the page, similar to what you would do in theater.
