This one I wrote the summer of 2017. It started one night as I was standing in the driveway, watching the fireflies among the trees. I was moved thinking about how our Creator had made the little guys but I started working on the inspiration, I thought “This song could have an allegorical meaning as well. This is the result.

    Fireflies

    Standing lonely on the lane,

Feeling small and full of pain,

I gaze down the long, long road.

    Seeing nothing on the Right-

    Drifting toward the Left tonight-

A search for answers is misplaced.

Turnings eyes back to the right,

    Catching a streak of light,

    A firefly goes dancing by.

Darkness flecked at once with sparks.

    Millions of tiny arcs

    Start to gather all around.

    Fireflies flashing their lights,

    Signaling some hope to me;

Reminder that He loves and cares

    Rescuing  wretches like me.

    Blinking bright among the trees,

    Resting on the emerald leaves,

The fireflies light up the night.

Flashing stars fly through the air

    Splashing light everywhere

    A testimony to His care

    Jesus, I am kneeling down

    Upon this holy ground

    To thank You for fireflies.

Ones that journey along with me

    Showing me truth. I see

    A testimony to Christ’s love.

    Standing peaceful on the lane

    Knowing truth and love’s refrain

I smile at the long, long road.

As always, comments and critiques are welcome.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my Strength and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14

Wow, @dakota!! Beautiful!!!! It’s amazing how simple fireflies can be, yet they are really a gift and something to thank God for!! Very good!!

@Dakota, I love the fireflies. They’re fun to watch at night.

You did a wonderful job with this song! The one suggestion I have is to maybe change light to embers in the line “Splashing light everywhere” to add some assonance and help it flow a little more smoothly.
I’d love to hear this put to music! (I was singing along as I read but am not sure I got the tune right. 🙂 )
