    Two poems this week!

This one is another ‘spontaneous inspiration’ one. As always, enjoy, critique and, if you want to, post one of your own.

    Between Your Headphones

Between your headphones there are eyes
Hiding by disguise what’s really on the inside
Down deep in your bones there is pain
But you have to fain smiles o’er the tears you’ve cried

Holding that cellphone in your hand
You think that you’ve banned all entrance to your heart
All that you have known you forget
Hiding in your jacket, this painful world you depart.

We know the world’s a hard place to live
It takes more than it gives and leaves you empty
I know some people get abusive
They speak deceptive words with no charity
But we are here, with love so sincere
Ready to take the pain, help strength to regain
Ready to stand for you when your heart has died
Oh, we are here, with hearts open wide

Outside those headphones there’s a song
Sung all the day long by hearts wanting to love you
Inside your heart groans but there’s hope
Someone there to help you cope when all the pains ensue

Beyond that cellphone there are those
Ready to expose to you how much they are willing to
Show you some unknown parts inside
Times when they have cried, wanting to show love to you

We know the world’s a hard thing to face
It drains your strength and faith. It saps your courage
We know some people give you no space
Their words cannonade you with no mercy
But we are here, with love so sincere
Ready to take the pain, help strength to regain
Ready to stand for you when your heart has died
Oh, we are here, with hearts open wide

Lift off the headphones, Listen to
Music you never knew ringing in the air
Melody over despair, the notes of joy
Hope sends envoy of love you never foreknew

    Lower that cellphone Look around
Faces abound that want to treasure you
Though they be few, their hearts will show love true
Maybe renew your love for those around.

We know the world’s a hard thing to face
It drains your strength and faith. It saps your courage
We know some people give you no space
Their words cannonade you with no mercy
But we are here, with love so sincere
Ready to take the pain, help strength to regain
Ready to stand for you when your heart has died
Oh, we are here, with hearts open wide

We’ll hug you. Stand up for you when
They’ve arisen against you to harm.
We’ll love you. Fight hard when you can’t
Pray our hearts are constant. We are
We are right here for you.

    Psalm 119:11
Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.

    Here’s the second one.

    Freedom at Last
    Spangled bars and glistening stars
Stitched in crimson, white and blue
Blood-stained graves of the soldiers true
Haunt the heart of their comrades coming home with scars.

They say freedom isn’t truly free
With them I’d have to agree
Some hearts realize there’s more to this
Than life, liberty and pursuit of happiness

Though we claim to be free
    Are we really free indeed?

In the land of the free
And the home of the brave
    Have we been redeemed
By the One who can save
Is He the One our nation’s really under
Are we truly freed or under a delusion of splendor?

They cry give us freedom to speak
What we want we’ll happ’ly seek
But when true freedom on them calls
Down they bunker and throw up high but wobbly walls

    Fiercely crying freedom they war
    But I’m afraid they forgot
Freedom’s battle has once been fought
And by dying it’s Champion is Conqueror

Though we claim to be free
    Are we really free indeed?

In the land of the free
And the home of the brave
    Have we been redeemed
By the One who can save
Is He the One our nation’s really under
Are we truly freed or under a delusion of splendor?

At the foot of the old rugged Cross
Come kneel, ponder on the loss
    The ultimate sacrifice
Of the One who for us paid the ultimate price.

No Ole Glory flies on the pole
But a red-stained cross of wood
    Only Jesus Christ really could
Give the gift of true freedom to a sinful soul.

Sorry I’m a little behind! This week’s is a revison of one I wrote some time ago. As always, I hope you enjoy, and please critique. Also, if you’ve written any poetry you’d like to post, feel free! This thread it’s just a showcase for my material. I would like to see what you have too. 🙂

    Captain of Me
    The storm is raging
    The waves are caging
There’s no way I can stay afloat
I’m alone in my little boat
I need someone who can be
    Captain and navigate this sea

    I hear You calling
    Through wind’s a squalling
Call me, I will come take the helm
I will guide out of waves that whelm
Just let me have the control
I’ll be the Captain of your soul I cry for lifeline
There’s no way I can stay alive
    I need Him divine
I will drown if life takes a dive

Lord, be Captain of me tonight
    You will be faithful
Storms might strengthen and may affright
    I may be woeful
Lord, Your hands are able to steer
Through these tides to Your sturdy pier
Lord, be Captain of me tonight

    I surrender to
    Him who needs no crew
    To survive this stormy ordeal
Put Your hand on this broken wheel
I need You to ever be
    Captain and navigate this sea

    You will pilot me
    Safe to heaven’s shore
    You will pilot me
    You I will adore
    Lord, my Captain forevermore

Okay, so I know some of you (uhem, @parker) have encouraged me to publish my poems as a book. I have really appreciated the encouragement and critique you all have given me.

Now, that being said, I didn’t get a book published. But I did open an Etsy store, selling digital, downloadable and printable files for wall art that feature my poems (and some pictures that I’ve taken over the years)

It’s called “Dakota’s Musings” (thanks to my mom for the name). Here’s the link if you want to go check it out. https://www.etsy.com/shop/DakotasMusings

This week I have another revision of an older song. Enjoy and critique!

    Bloom (Where you are)
    Flower, you’re crowned with a jewel-like bud
But all you think about is that you’re planted in mud
Flower, your crown is a ‘drooping low
With wishing that the winds would be soft in their winnow

Flower, the sun has never failed you
The rains have never ceased to distill water when due
Flower, you have all that you will need
To grow up and mature from your faith’s very small seed

You don’t need another’s soil to grow strong
Grow right here and honor Him all the day long
Do not be envying another’s hue
Focus on unfolding your own bloom to
Christ. Under His caring hands you belong
All you need to do is bloom where you are

Flower, you’re gazing above you at
Others who seem to flourish, and seem safe in their plat
Flower, don’t envy them; He made both
You and them, giving to all enough room for good growth

He planted you here for a good reason
His wisdom is sure in every season
Do not doubt that He is in control , though
Monsoons pound you and hurricanes blow.

Spread out your roots around the Rock and hold
Fast to the Word , treasure of worth untold.
Let the bud unfurl into bloom.and be
Flower sweet with His praise eternally.

    Psalm 119:11
Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.

@Dakota, nice job! I really like how you began the poem… “Flower, you’re crowned with a jewel-like bud, But all you think about is that you’re planted in mud.”

I mean, I like the entire poem, but I like, especially, these particular sentences, or the opening to the poem. Keep it up! 😀

Random Stranger: "What do you want to do when you grow up?"
Me: "Write every inch of your future."

And if you have written any poetry you’d like to share, please feel free to post it here. 🙂

    My Shepherd
My shepherd, I have wandered from You
My heart is craving fantasy but found only vanity
My shepherd, I am calling to You
My strength can’t last in downpouring rains. My soul is deploring
In the storms that seem so strong
And the night just seems so long.
My shepherd, come and seek for my soul

My shepherd, bring me back to the fold
Where I am safe from thieves and wolves
And warmth enfolds through bitter cold

My Shepherd, bring my back to the fold
Where I am under Your tender care
And not in the Robber’s sly snare
My shepherd, bring me back to the fold

My shepherd, I have followed You
Through the meadows and the mountains along this earthly way
My shepherd, You have lead me through
Through the tempest tossed forest and beside the stormy bay
    Through winds blowing strong
    And through nights so long
My Shepherd, through whatever, lead us to You.

Oh, Shepherd, I can’t wait to see the heavenly fold
Where all Your sheep will be gathered together
Oh, Shepherd, I can’t wait to see what those pastures hold
Where I’ll be safe in Your arms forever.

    Psalm 119:11
Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.

Oh, dear! Sorry I forgot about this!

This week’s is one that I wrote more recently.  It’s a little more personal to me than most of the other poems I have written.

As usual, enjoy, critique and feel free to post any poems you’ve written recently.

    My Heart For You

I’m struggling with longing thoughts inside
    I’m burning with a yearning strong. I can’t hide
That cravings are consuming all of my heart
My love for You’s beginning to depart

But You’re the One Who won my heart that day
And You’re the Flame that burned me all away
My heart needs to hungering after the Son
These lustful desires inside I must shun

I somehow lost sight of the purest, truest love
I’m consumed with the cravings I’m dreaming of
It’s time to return home to Him Who Loves my soul
Retreat from all the pretty things, they have stole
    My heart away from You.

Your throne within my soul will no one seize
Your love always awakens my heart like a breeze
Your mercy and compassion awe me still
Your hands have never let go. They never will

And You’re the One Who won my heart that day
And You’re the Flame that burned me all away
I must in His hands leave all these things and run
Into His ever open arms of pardon

I must regain sight of the purest, truest love
I’m consumed with the cravings I’m dreaming of
It’s time to return home to Him Who Loves my soul
Retreat from all the pretty things. This my goal
    My heart again for You.

You know what’s in my heart better than I
You know all my desires, not one can slip by
You know what is the best for me. You know.
The gifts that you have given me overflow
These things are still consuming my pining
But I’ll just have to wait for Your timing

    Psalm 119:11

That I might not sin against You.

Another more personal peom, but I hope that you all enjoy it! 🙂

    Thank You for Forgiving Me

Once my life was wasted with lust, aslant in a downward slide
Once I lived like a spiritual prostitute
Once I thought myself to be rich, arrayed with the robes of pride
When I was really blind, naked, destitute

Once I knew how great was my sin, I bowed down and hid my face
Then He came as a Savior pure and took my place
Once He died to wash away shame and sins so great and disgrace
Then He called me, betrothed me, clothed me with His grace
As I clung to His scarred hand I whispered to Him
    “Thank you for forgiving me”

When you give your heart away, only one should get the gift.
Once I let it loose, set my affections adrift
But now it belongs to One. Only One has it to hold
He’s my Savior, Lord Jesus Christ. His love’s untold.
May my heart cleave unto Jesus’ love for all of my days
And “Thank you for forgiving me” be all my praise

Now I kneel at His feet to pray, seeking a glimpse of His face
Often longing to lay my head over His heart
How I long to be held in strong arms, His unfailing embrace
Oh, if I could be there, I would never depart!

Often I realize that my eyes are still straying to things
That aren’t under the guiding shadow of His wings
Often I remind myself that nothing on earth can compare
And turn my eyes from chasing dreams that can ensnare
And on Jesus again, this my penitent prayer
    “Thank you for forgiving me.”

When I stand before my Lover at the wedding divine
When I see the One who suffered to set me free
When I gaze into His eyes, tears will be streaming from mine
And I’ll whisper, “Thank you for forgiving me”

When He wipes away those tears, I will never cry anymore
At His throne I’ll praise His name. Him I will adore
When He says to me, “Enter into my joy abundant
For thou hast done well, thou good and faithful servant,”
My anthem eternally “Thank you for forgiving me!”
