This is one that I was inspired to write when I was trying to jog around our driveway, for exercise. But my brain was energized to exercise its poetry powers by the wind that kept sweeping  over our ridge top. 🙂 Enjoy and critique as always!

    Free with the Wind
The air about me is alive
There’s joy inside none could describe
It’s scented with grace and steeped in freedom

It is just one of those days
When Creation breathes out Your praise
The wind whelms me in its voice
Your joy and life fills me. I’ve no choice

My hair is twirling ’round my face
The song inside swells . My soul lacks the space.
My lips now burst aloud with song
My feet can’t help but start dancing along

I just have to dance and sing
The hills with a harmony ring
My heart throbs with a thrill
    I can’t remain standing still
I just dance free with the wind

Once I was dying in my sin
Once I couldn’t have danced with the wind
Now there’s a hope and joy I can’t keep within

Since Jesus set this poor soul free
Since He gave life a new purity
There is purpose and pleasure in what He made

So I can smile and can sing.
I’ll trust in You. You made everything.

It is just one of those days
When Creation breathes out Your praise
The wind whelms me in its voice
Your joy and life fills me. I’ve no choice

My lips now burst aloud with song
My feet can’t help but start dancing along

I just have to dance and sing
The hills with a harmony ring
My heart throbs with a thrill
    I can’t remain standing still
I just dance free with the wind

When I see Your hand in creation
    When I know freedom’s declaration
My soul explodes in freedom’s celebration

My lungs fill with the air’s freshness
My eyes sparkle with the brightness
This liberty of life exhilarates me.

      (Disciple) Follow His Footsteps

You did not demand a throne or a crown at Your birth
But lowly came and, cloaked in flesh, was born as God on earth
You’re love allowed the glory to bow and seem weak
What else but pride prevents my spirit from being as meek?

You strode the ocean to show them what faith in You can do
What else but doubting drowns my faith to walk with You?
You sang a hymn while knowing what great woe would soon come
Should I not sing to You when sad and my soul is numb?
You stretched out Your hands to heal them, the blind and the lame
Why do not I like You, heal a broken soul in His name?

And be a disciple stepping out in faith
Following You to the wilderness and the war-torn land
And be a disciple calling on You for strength
Battling darkness and fighting the Devil’s cruel hand
      And follow in Your footsteps

You taught with Your love and truth for all who came to hear
Why cannot I speak with grace and admonish without fear?
You confronted the Pharisee with Your authority
Why cannot I stand and speak up with truth my priority?
You showed the disciples how to follow in the way
Why do not I shine my light to others every day?

You suffered their scorn and stripes, not guilty of their charge
Why can not I turn my cheek, since You forgave wrong so large?
You gave up Your life to pay my debt at Calvary’s hill
Just what if I would for a friend the greatest love fulfil?

And be a disciple stepping out in faith
Following You to the wilderness and the war-torn land
And be a disciple calling on You for strength
Battling darkness and fighting the Devil’s cruel hand
      And follow in Your footsteps

You left these Your footprints on the pages of history
With that great sacrifice, You opened a new destiny
Your word says imitate You, walk in Your precepts
What else can I do but follow You, walk in Your footsteps

And be a disciple stepping out in faith
Following You to the wilderness and the war-torn land
And be a disciple calling on You for strength
Battling darkness and fighting the Devil’s cruel hand
      And follow in Your footsteps

This one was inspired by a line of another song. It just jumped out at me, so I scribbled it down in my notebook. Later, when I read over the line again, the idea for this song/poem arose and so here it is. Enjoy and critique to your heart’s content!

        Up spring
Once in a desert, parched and ever to pine,
There I was hardened and brittle bone.
But that’s when You arrived, raining love divine.
Up sprung a well from this heart of stone.

Once in a cell, so deafened and hid in dark,
There I was heart lost in sorrow’s arc.
But that’s when You arrived singing “I’ve atoned.”
Up sprung a song of the sweetest tone

        And here am I reborn and remade;
But there are those still lost, living in gray.
If I’m to imitate the price You paid
Let me be in my every way

        Where souls are thirsty
May I be the well from which they may drink
        Where souls are hungry
May I be the bread providing them meat
        Where their souls are crying
May I sing the song to turn them to You
Let up spring from me a life lived out for You

Here in the desert, parched and deathly dry,
I am to search for the lost who cry.
When it seems the pain presses me to groan,
Up springs the thought I am not alone.

Here in the dungeon, shadowed, sad and still,
I am to play them the song “He atones.”
Here is my tongue, so let notes from me spill.
Up spring the hope they are not alone.

So here am I commissioned for You
To tell them of the love Your dying proved.
If they’re to see Your heart is ever true,
Let me be a strong-living proof.

        Where souls are dying
May I be the breath to raise their souls
        Where souls are slaving
May I be a savior to shatter their chains
        Where souls are longing
May I be a hope to illuminate the path to You
Let up spring from me a service for you

And here am I rescued and remade
But there are those still lost, living in the gray.
If they’re to see Your love is ever true
Let me be faithful, living proof.

And here am I, human and so frail
But all the watchmen are called to watch, not fail.
Since I may be the tool that You will use
Let me in my every way
        Up springing life for You

        Psalm 119:11
Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.
