Kaytlin Phillips
@kaytlin-phillipsHey everyone! As you can tell I’m new…and I’m really not sure where to start…lol…
My name is Kaytlin Phillips and I tend to write Middle Grade and Young Adult in…well a lot of different genres such as Fantasy, Western, Contemporary, etc.
A little about me is that I’m a firm believer in Jesus Christ and I love to write redemption stories because God definitely did a lot for me! I run a blog with my two younger sisters who are my best friends! Love reading, writing, hiking, hunting wild orchids with my dad, and my crazy *rolls eyes* German Shorthaired Pointer named Ruger. Also, just a fun fact I’m the fifth child out of seven! I was homeschooled and graduated in 2021.
I’m excited to be a part of this community! I’ve been thinking about joining for a while and finally did, so I’m excited!
Bless!

@noah-cochranHey Kaytlin, I’m Noah, glad to have you on SE!
It’s a great blessing to have siblings whom you are close friends with, and I’m the same way. I happen to be the second child of seven. 🙂
How long have you been writing? What’s your current WIP about? Have you completed any books yet?
Orchid hunting, nice. Do y’all live out in the country?

Hey Noah, nice to meet you!
Awesome! Big families are tons of fun in my opinion. 🙂
I’ve been seriously writing for about five years. My current WIP is a western set in 1860-1870 Kansas. It’s about a young man named Daniel who is running from God and the pain in his past. I’ve completed one book about 2 years ago, I’m actually about to release it! It’s an MG fantasy that was lots of fun to write!
We live 20 minutes out of a small town, only as big as it is because at lot of people like to vacation here…not a fan of that…lol…but my dad’s good with maps so he finds out of the way places for us to hike.
How long have you been writing? And if I may ask what’s your current WIP and have you finished any books?
Bless!

Nice! The 19th century (Victorian Era) is easily my second favorite period in history.

That’s great! Are you going the traditional or self-publishing route? What’s the plot of the book?
How long have you been writing?
I wrote my first sentence of fictional prose in July of 2021, so a little less than a year it would seem. Yes, I’m a complete newbie. 🙃
And if I may ask what’s your current WIP and have you finished any books?
My first novel (the what-in-the-world-is-writing kind) I wrote last Fall. It taught me about two trillion things, which leaves several trillion to go.
Over winter, I finished my first real project–the first book in a medieval historical fiction action and intrigue series. I love medieval history, which drove me into said genre. I’m currently working on book two in the series.

It’s a lot of fun to, tracking down the info I need has been more work than I normally do but also fun to see what I can find.

I’m self-publishing through KDP, lots of work but I’ve met some cool people and learned a lot! The story is about Fledge, a deaf archer who wants to help in the war against the dragons but can’t because of his disability. It’s a story of unlikely friendship, discovery, and pupose.

Well, we were all new at one point.

I know what you mean! Even after having been writing for almsot five years I’m still learning so much!

Oh, that sounds so cool! I love medievel historical fiction! One of my favorite time periods! I like a lot of different historical fictions through…lol…That is so awesome!
My first books were techincally ones I wrote with my sisters. So thought World of Silence is the first project I completed and wrote by myself it is not the first book I’ve been part of writing.

Nice! Let me know how that goes, from what my research has shown, self-publishing is an intense process, so I wish you success!

@bettywojWelcome, Kaytlin. Nice to meet you. I wish you the best on your writing career. It’s good you’re starting at a young age. I was a late-bloomer: 65 when I first started writing. I never had a burning desire to write, but one day I decided that’s what I wanted to do. I’ve finished drafts and just submitted requests for quotes on a developmental edit.
My husband, Jon, and I live in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. I’m taking Udemy classes on web development and acrylic painting. I love reading, watching old westerns on TV, and spending time with Jon and our very spoiled cats. We’re in the planning stages for building our retirement home on 5.1 acres of land we just purchased.
Nice to meet you and look forward to hearing about your work.

@storysmithHi Kaytlin! Welcome to the crew! It is great to have you with us! Your WIP sounds awesome and look forward to reading it!
The 19th century is one of my favorite eras of history. I am the middle child of 3, was also homeschooled, and a pk. I started seriously writing a couple years ago. I am working on a rather ambitious WIP that is a mix of fantasy, steampunk, and sci-fi. It is about an exiled young princess and her journey to become a warrior to protect her people and eventually the world.
What are your favorite genre’s and books?
A real hero remains accountable until the end.

Also, sorry about the late reply, my internet has been down since Friday evening.

@kaytlin-phillipsNice to meet you! I once heard a quote that said, “You’re not too old and it’s not too late.” I love that thought! Best of luck!
Oh, I’m familiar, at least with the general area, of Soddy Daisy! We live on the TN, NC, and GA line…lol…Old westerns are the best! Me and my brothers used to watch them all the time! Cool! Sounds like my parents’ dream retirement…lol…
Same!
Bless!
