@rose-colored-fancyAwesome, I’ll send it your way! I think it went out for the first time on the fifth or so, so it’s a little outdated!

@sydney*Nods solemnly* A handful is right š Thank you! Theyāre both lovely but heās definitely the one who makes everyone go āOh thatās a beautiful horse!ā Itās terrible for his already immense ego XD
XD That’s hysterical!!
Itās especially hilarious when it happens late like Aydin was an important character in all three books but it wasnāt until the tail end of book 3 that I realized Iād been writing him as such all along XD Itās just āAvoidance of eye contact, special interests, stimming, overanalyzing social situations, strong sense of justice, occasionally reacting wrong to a situation, sensory issues etc. etc. Yeah no, heās definitely autisticā
š š lol. Characters….sometimes they can be so unpredicatable!
We always have that one character who is so delightfully fun to torture but who we still love dearly. Theyāre often the best characters though XD I also love driving my characters to the absolute edge of their sanity. Especially Liorah, sheās so fun to drive absolutely desperate š„° Oh goodness that sounds ominous! I promise I love them XD
Yes!! I love throwing Ethan and Payton into the deep end **sorry guys** and hoping they will learn to swim and not sink! OK fine. I apologize to Ethan, but I don’t usually tell Payton I’m sorry. He doesn’t listen to me so I guess he kinda deserves it….
Oh THANKS!! XD
Thank you! I decided it on a whim and loved it ever since! Hmm, let me see⦠Yes, I have it nicely spread out, one per book. I mean, I need to have something to motivate her, and the promise of āYouāll get to commit arson pretty soonā is as good as any! XD Of course I canāt let her do it too often, sheās already so spoiled as a main character XD
Ha ha! That’s so funny I love it! Oh the things we do to make our characters do what we actually want them to do! Liorah sounds like such an interesting character, I love her! Also, I think you did a great of of describing the relationship between her and Gav. Conflicted/strained relationships can be tricky to write but when you pull it off….it’s such a satisfying feeling!
Ohh, thatās tricky! Thatāll be fun though! Iām personally kind of uninterested in romance in most media, it has to be really well done for me to find it compelling, but I found that writing it is actually very fun!
Oh well, actually, I open with their wedding so the romance from that point on is a bit easier…. yeah me too. I usually don’t read romance unless it’s done the right way, if you know what I mean! What was your biggest challenge in writing that?
Ugghhh theyāre SO HARD! I had to rewrite my battles like three or four times to get them right, and theyāre still not quite what I wanted! Coming up with the plan is absolutely the hardest part!
YEEESS! (The second hardest thing was writing a song but that’s a whole different kettle of fish XD) The main reason I wrote the battle was to give me a good excuse to kill off Malon, my main villain. I have SUCH a hard time coming up with ways to punish my villains so I resorted to simply killing him off in battle. However, as there is no battle in this next book…..šš perpetual banishment? idk š
Symbolism is just the best thing, Iām honestly guilty of overusing it if anything XD
Is that even possible! XD Is the symbolism in Gilded Blood? What is it?
Yep, yep, thatās how it is! I joke about all the awful things Iāve done to my characters, especially Aydin who hits a new rock bottom approximately three times a book XD Every time they think it canāt get worse YES IT CAN *Evil writer laughter*
Oh my poor characters. They aren’t allowed a moment’s peace.
My characters: Oh good things are finally calming down! I guess she’s finally going to leave us alone now.
Me: *rubbing hands* Just you wait, guys! Have you ever heard of the calm before the storm!?!
Aaaaa! Poor Aydin!š¢š¢š¢š¢ Things do look up for him by the end, right!?!
Thatās HILARIOUS Iāve definitely been guilty of that XD Actually quite literally once⦠I trapped him (Aydin, coincidentally) in a prison and basically told him to figure it out. Somehow, he did. Still shocked at that one. Sometimes my characters use their shared brain cell (singular) and Iām always shocked XD
Girl! If you don’t leave Aydin alone, I am coming to his rescue!!!! XD Singular shared brain cell….. šš Yeah, I just let them do all the thinking work….saves me the trouble….
Yes and no! Itās a subcategory of sword since there isnāt really a standard kind of sword. Itās two-handed and pretty big, almost four feet long! It was used without a shield, and mainly on foot. The kind we do was for when you werenāt wearing much armor! The shorter swords, like youād use on a horse or with a shield, with one hand, are called arming swords! Theyāre quite different in use from the longsword. Iāve done a tiny bit with one-handed swords, but really not more than a crash course XD
I never knew swords had “sub-categories!” So cool!! I’m going to have to work that into my next book if I get an opportunity. =) I would love to get a chance to learn how to use a sword one day!
Both before and after XD After I drafted it for the first time, but before I rewrote it! So I do have a few cool details here and there, plus it really helps me think of cool things to do in fight scenes! Some of the things you do irl are the kind that people think would be unrealistic to include XD Oh, watching battles would definitely help! It helps you pick up on the rhythm of it all!
Oh the many revisions my battle had to go through…. It was probably a toss-up as to who was more exhausted by the end, me or my characters XD By the way, I read your article on sword fighting from your blog! That helps a ton!! Thanks a bunch for making any of my future swordfights more realistic XD Maybe I can use the “I need to watch some battles in case I ever need to write some more” excuse to watch LOTR…
LOlll sameee!! On the other hand, swords require a ton of coordination, which I absolutely do not have either, but here we are XD
Yeah, you wouldn’t want to cut your own head off…wow. Sorry if that wounded graphic…
Loll, I get that! Though, you can change it as often as you like! That does help XD
Ha ha, yes! Well, I am (re)reading LOTR so I would probably change a lot depending on what chapter I am reading and what amazing quotes I find! XD
Oh awesome! Thatās pretty close, that must be really exciting! Okay, so beta reading! Beta readers are people who critique your manuscript between drafts! Often theyāre just friends and family, but having a few beta readers who are writers has been an immense help to me! If you socialize around SE, sooner or later someone will volunteer if they like your story (Like I did XD) Theyāre like editors, except theyāre not professionals and often more subjective, and theyāll usually just read it once. They donāt do as much as an editor, but theyāre amazing for pointing out what isnāt working and what is! It often helps you get perspective on a story when youāre too close to it and you have no idea whether itās trash or a masterpiece (You know that feeling you get while writing XD) Iāve beta-read for people several times, and Iāve had beta readers go through my manuscript, and both have been overall great experiences! I love beta reading for other people because A. I get to read cool stories and talk about them to the author directly, which is epic, and B. It helps me with my own revisions. Iāve gotten a LOT better at editing by reading other peopleās work and critiquing it! I love when people read my story because well⦠itās amazing to get to share it! Plus it has helped IMMENSELY with revising, often theyāll point out issues I never would have spotted. Anyway, Iām happy to answer any more questions about it, if itās something youāre interested in! If itās something you might consider but you donāt know how to go about it, Iād be happy to tell you more about that too!
Thanks a bunch!! It is!!
Beta reading sounds so cool! Yes, I would be interested in letting you Beta read my story! I would love to have another writer’s opinion….. So when I finish, what would the best way be to send it to you?
August 16, 2022 at 12:16 pm #152331Sydney Witbeck
@sydneyHi Sydney! It is awesome to have you with us! I am Josh and have been here on SE for almost a 1 year. It has been the best step in my writing journey yet!
Hi Josh! It’s so good to be here! š
Your book sounds really awesome! I started writing medieval fantasy short stories when I was in high school, mainly for myself to past the time away. It was usually about a knight, his squire, and his remaining men at arms who got separated from the English army at the battle of Agincourt and make their way home to England.
Oh thanks so much!! I had so much fun doing it!!!
Then I fell head over heels for fantasy āLord of the Rings, Redwall, and Narniaā to switch over to writing it for the past 2.5 years. Some would say I am a bit more ambitious than Tolkien when it comes to worldbuilding because my story goes from one planet to the universe full of battles, exploration/discovery, invention, and adventure. Although I canāt compete with his language making skills. lol It may take at least a couple series to finish the main plot. lol
Yes! Tolkien opened my eyes to a whole new world. Oh wow!! That does sound like quite an undertaking…. Are you planning on a particular number of books in your series? Do you plan on publishing it?
My main theme is to always do what is right no matter the cost. My story starts out with an exiled orphaned princess who does her best to care for her remaining child friends and fill the mother role to her young siblings. She then how finds herself surrounded by mighty warriors of good heart and loyal to the end. Through them she learns how to show Christ-like love even though times are dark and terrifying and to always make the best of life. She then begins her campaign to unite all tribes and kingdoms as one to save their land from an impending doom that will swallow them all.
I love the plotline of your story; that sounds so cool! If you ever publish, I would be interested in reading it š Impending death to swallow them all….**gulp** You have me hooked nowĀ šš
So far my solution to dealing with unruly characters is to throw them into hilarious situations or put them through a tough trial that builds some character in them. lol
I throw them in prison and let them deal with it! XD Or in the case of my latest unruly character, Payton, since he never follows what I want, I just let him wander into trouble and take what he gets.
I love to draw nearly anything but have not had a lot of time to do it for my story due to work. Luckily, my little sis @ajstoryteller is amazing at it and has been phenomenal at helping me design my countless creatures, monsters, and characters.
Yeah, writing takes preference! š The one thing I can’t draw is people so I can’t draw my characters unfortunately. It’s great that your sister can draw out your characters though! What kind of creatures do you have?
Medieval history is one of my favorite times in history and I would be happy to be a beta reader if you are looking for one. š
I love the medieval time period! So all my stories come from that time period!! When I finish my story, I want to look for some beta readers and if you want to go over it, I would appreciate it!
Have a great day š

@sydneyHi, Sydney! Iām crazy about books, too! Iāll devour a 50 chapter book in two daysš. Tumnus is an awesome name for a goat! I love it! Iāve enjoyed what Iāve read in the medieval genre, although Iāve never written it. I write fantasy, though maybe in the future I might try something else. Iām a Middle Earth fan, too! Whoās your favorite character? Or, if thatās too hard, like it is for me XD, favorite character from each kindred?
Yay! Bookworm/writer/Middle-Earth fanatics unite! š Oh yeah, once I pick up a book….well…. I just get lost in my own world…
Tumnus is my baby! XD And my sister has a goat named Lucy….
Pippin!!! Definitely Pippin. 100%. All the way! XD After that it’s pretty much which of the main characters I am reading about at the moment. (Except Frodo. Sorry buddy) But since you asked for each kindred….
Men: Eowyn. And then Aragon. Or maybe Eomer.
Elves: Legolas XD or maybe Galadriel
Dwarves: There’s really only one that counts so no surprise here š Gimli
Horses: (because yes they count!!) Shadowfax. š
Hobbits, well, you already know that one! (By the way, the first time I read LOTR I thought Pippin died and I started getting mad at Tolkien….)
Who are your favorites?
Do characters ever obey?š My princess has become the rudest person I ever met, my favorite went and died against my wishes, and my MC is far stupider then I ever intended XD
Ummm….never!?! Wait, your favorite died? Just died? ššš® I’m SOO SORRY!!! I haven’t killed anyone who didn’t deserve it yet. (AKA my villain) oh wait. I forgot, one of the older brother’s of my characters dies. But that’s before the story opened so it doesn’t really count.
Awesome! I hope to be a professional author in the future. Itās a great community! Iāve only been on for a short amount of time and itās been amazing! Ā A Journey to Unshakable Faith sounds awesome! Do you plan to publish it?
š š š You should!! If you do, I would love to read it!!!!
I self-published A Journey to Unshakable Faith about… *stares at the wall, calculating* a year and a half ago? Don’t quote me on that though! XD It was so rewarding to actually have a copy of my book in my hands after all the time and work!
Have a great day!! š„°š

@sydneyHi Sydney, Iām Emma. Welcome to Story Embers! We seem to have a lot in common. Iām also a Jesus-loving bibliophile with an obsession for both horses (and drawing them! š) and Middle Earth. And Tumnus is the best name ever for a goat. I love the medieval time period, and your book sounds interesting. I wish you luck with your refractory characters. What is your favorite thing about writing medieval fiction?
Hello hello!! I’m glad to be here!!
Jesus, horses, and Middle-Earth….what more can a girl ask for? XD
Thank you! Tumnus is super cute, super spoiled, and a great listener when I need an ear. Even if he did try to eat my writing notebook…..
Aww thanks! =) Maybe sometime in the near future they will learn enough wisdom to listen to me XD
Hmmmm…..my favorite thing about writing medieval fiction is that I get to write fantasy full of swordfights, bow and arrows, adventure, royalty, riding horses into battle, and gorgeous flowing dresses! XD Oh yeah, and the fact that if my characters don’t behave there is always the threat of sticking them in a dungeon š

@e-n-leonardThanks, Iāll go check it out!
Aww thanks! =) Maybe sometime in the near future they will learn enough wisdom to listen to me XD
š For the most part, I just let my characters run wild. Things get interesting when I let them figure out stuff the hard way XD
Hmmmmā¦..my favorite thing about writing medieval fiction is that I get to write fantasy full of swordfights, bow and arrows, adventure, royalty, riding horses into battle, and gorgeous flowing dresses! XD Oh yeah, and the fact that if my characters donāt behave there is always the threat of sticking them in a dungeon š
Yes! I love all those things! I really enjoy writing (relatively) medieval fantasy because it lends itself well to wild imagination and deep symbolism.
š I bet your characters hate that perk of their world!
Horses: (because yes they count!!) Shadowfax. š
Hobbits, well, you already know that one! (By the way, the first time I read LOTR I thought Pippin died and I started getting mad at Tolkienā¦.)
Shadowfax is awesome. And when I read that part *doesn’t spoil* with Pippin, I was like, wait, did he just kill off Pippin?! šØ Ā Thankfully notā¦

@rose-colored-fancyCharactersā¦.sometimes they can be so unpredicatable!
Truest thing I’ve heard today *nods sadly*
Yes!! I love throwing Ethan and Payton into the deep end **sorry guys** and hoping they will learn to swim and not sink! OK fine. I apologize to Ethan, but I donāt usually tell Payton Iām sorry. He doesnāt listen to me so I guess he kinda deserves itā¦.
Oh, yes, you just need to hurl them into the midst of chaos like “Okay guys, have fun! Don’t die too much!”
I apologize to Aydin every time I write him, but never to Liorah because she deserves it for being a brat XD
Liorah sounds like such an interesting character, I love her! Also, I think you did a great of of describing the relationship between her and Gav. Conflicted/strained relationships can be tricky to write but when you pull it offā¦.itās such a satisfying feeling!
Thank you! I love writing super complicated, conflicted relationships, it’s so fun XD I love it a bit too much actually XD
Oh well, actually, I open with their wedding so the romance from that point on is a bit easierā¦. yeah me too. I usually donāt read romance unless itās done the right way, if you know what I mean! What was your biggest challenge in writing that?
Hmmm… Let me see…
It was hard to develop the love interest enough, that he didn’t just feel flat. He just wouldn’t cooperate with development most of the time XD
It was also tough to add enough conflict that it made sense for them not to get together until the end, but not so much that it felt dramatic!
However, it was so very worth it, the relationships are probably some of my favorite parts of the story!
YEEESS! (The second hardest thing was writing a song but thatās a whole different kettle of fish XD)
Ohhh yesss I had to write a few verses and that was HARD!
The main reason I wrote the battle was to give me a good excuse to kill off Malon, my main villain. I have SUCH a hard time coming up with ways to punish my villains so I resorted to simply killing him off in battle. However, as there is no battle in this next bookā¦.. perpetual banishment? idk
Oh, such a mood XD I once killed off four important characters in two chapters because I needed to get rid of them asap XD
Is that even possible! XD Is the symbolism in Gilded Blood? What is it?
Okay, there’s a LOT! I have a lot in MoS too but it isn’t as developed yet!
A lot of the characters are associated with things. I have a character who is connected to glass, gems, shattering things, and so on. I love using symbolism in descriptions, it gives it a cohesive and fairytale feel!
Another example is Aydin and Faye. (Actually, both couples have some very nice symbolism) Aydin used to work with poisons that were made from flowers, and Faye is working on becoming a healer, which obviously also involves herbs and flowers. So, it’s a same/opposite thing. Besides that, I worked flowers into a lot of key moments of their relationship!
However, my favorite example is the title! So, “Gilded Blood” is a play on Goldenblooded, which is the dynasty Liorah and Gavril are from.
They were called that because of a myth that all humans were created with golden blood, that turned red after the first sin. So, it basically means perfect or sinless.
A large theme in the story is how Liorah and Gavril are both pressured to keep up pretenses, to not show how loaded their personal lives and the political situation are.
Besides that, the story starts off in a pretty black and white way, with clear heroes and villains and as it progresses, everything turns to shades of gray.
So, instead of “Golden Blood” it’s “Gilded Blood”, which kind of shows how nothing is as good or perfect as it seems on the outside.
I’m very proud of it, it’s one of my favorite bits of symbolism, there are so many layers to it!
My characters: Oh good things are finally calming down! I guess sheās finally going to leave us alone now.
Me: *rubbing hands* Just you wait, guys! Have you ever heard of the calm before the storm!?!
Exactly!! It’s just one long cycle of “Oh, you thought this was rock bottom? HAHA NOT YET!” *Evil writer laugh*
Aaaaa! Poor Aydin! Things do look up for him by the end, right!?!
Oh, don’t worry, Aydin gets a very happy ending! It took quite some work and suffering to get there, but he deserves it š„°
Girl! If you donāt leave Aydin alone, I am coming to his rescue!!!! XD
You’re not the first person to threaten that XD I’m never going to leave him alone, but I give him a happy ending so that makes up for it XD
Singular shared brain cellā¦..Ā Yeah, I just let them do all the thinking workā¦.saves me the troubleā¦.
If I let them do the thinking there wouldn’t be anything left of the story XD Or they’d just sit in a corner and mope, especially Liorah XD I don’t trust my characters that much XD
I never knew swords had āsub-categories!ā So cool!! Iām going to have to work that into my next book if I get an opportunity. =) I would love to get a chance to learn how to use a sword one day!
Yes! There are so many kinds, it’s super cool! There’s a lot of overlap but they’re still really distinct!
Oh the many revisions my battle had to go throughā¦. It was probably a toss-up as to who was more exhausted by the end, me or my characters XD
Oh mood XD That’s how it is
By the way, I read your article on sword fighting from your blog! That helps a ton!! Thanks a bunch for making any of my future swordfights more realistic XD Maybe I can use the āI need to watch some battles in case I ever need to write some moreā excuse to watch LOTRā¦
Awesome, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yess, an excellent excuse XD
Yeah, you wouldnāt want to cut your own head offā¦wow. Sorry if that wounded graphicā¦
That would indeed be less than ideal XD
Beta reading sounds so cool! Yes, I would be interested in letting you Beta read my story! I would love to have another writerās opinionā¦.. So when I finish, what would the best way be to send it to you?
Yes! Awesome! I can’t wait to read it!
You have my email via the newsletter, you can use that one! Once we’re closer to the time I’ll be happy to discuss details! So far I’ve always worked on Google Docs, that works great for beta reading because you can easily leave comments!
(Oh, one more thing! If you tag people, you should do it in the space where you’re typing, it won’t work in the ‘tags’ area. Honestly, I have no idea how that tags area works, I’ve never used it XD)

They hate it…I love it!
“Payton, if you don’t listen to me right now, I am throwing you in the dungeon. And I mean it!!”
Payton looks up from where he has been doing something I tried to politely ask him NOT TO DO: You can’t do that. It’s not part of the story!
Me: Well, guess what? It’s in the story now buddy!!
*Payton glares at me from the inside of a dungeon. I blissfully continue writing*
And when I read that part *doesnāt spoil* with Pippin, I was like, wait, did he just kill off Pippin?! šØ Ā Thankfully notā¦
Yeah. He better not kill Pippin!! Although there is another Tolkien story, The Children of Hurin, where my absolute favorite character in the whole entire book gets MURDERED!! HE DIES!!! No spoilers but it is SAD!!! šššš

@sydneyTruest thing Iāve heard today *nods sadly*
XD I know right!?! Try telling someone who’s not a writer that you can’t control you’re characters and they look at you like you’ve lost your mind…
Well, maybe they’re right….
Oh, yes, you just need to hurl them into the midst of chaos like āOkay guys, have fun! Donāt die too much!ā I apologize to Aydin every time I write him, but never to Liorah because she deserves it for being a brat XD
Hope you make it out alive!! See you later!! *winks at characters* Oh man, PAyton deserves (almost) everything I throw at him. Sometimes I go a little bit overboard with it, but I’m sure it’s good for his character growth XD I can just see him and Liorah in a character castle together…..XD

(I would love to “hear” XD your verses if you ever want to share them by the way!)

Nothing like a good battle for getting rid of a villain! Oh wow! 4 in 2 chapters!?!
That is a lot of symbolism but I love it!! I was wondering about your title….wow! That is SOO COOL!!! I love that you put a “background legend” into your story!!
Exactly!! Itās just one long cycle of āOh, you thought this was rock bottom? HAHA NOT YET!ā *Evil writer laugh*
They just have no idea, do they?! And they can’t stop anything we do! And we can put them in some pretty…ummm…interesting circumstances, can’t we?

Okay!
Yes, I will too! I always work in Word….not Google Docs….but when I get ready to send it your way we can work that out too!

@e-n-leonardlol! Thatās hilarious!! Do you have a current WIP by the way?
š yes, it is! And it works pretty well because Iām some mild form of pantser.
I do have a current WIP as well as several books waiting to be written. My current one is a dystopian, and the others are one historical fiction and a bunch of (or really one very large) fantasies.
They hate itā¦I love it! āPayton, if you donāt listen to me right now, I am throwing you in the dungeon. @e-n-leonard Wow. I just realized what a sad note I ended on! Sorry!
Thatās okay! And Iād like to read itā¦thanks for no spoilersā¦and Iām sorry (?) about your favorite character. Pippin is actually pretty similar to my little brother, so needless to say Iāve got a rather soft spot for the character even if I find him a little annoying š

@rose-colored-fancyXD I know right!?! Try telling someone whoās not a writer that you canāt control youāre characters and they look at you like youāve lost your mindā¦
Well, maybe theyāre rightā¦.
Well, they’re definitely not wrong XD

Oh goodness YES! I’ve had Liorah in character castles multiple times, and every time was worse than the last. She feuded with everyone, swore at the castle, almost died an alarming amount of times, and threw shoes at whoever deserved it. She also came up with very alarming threats. She’s exhausting, bless her XD
That sounds like a tricky balance but I bet itās so rewarding!! Uncooperative characters again? XD Is it Aydin or someone else?
Well, Aydin was her original love interest, until Liorah politely informed me that he wouldn’t survive a relationship with her. (Whether this was a threat or an observation goodness only knows.) However she was not incorrect, so now they have a sibling-like relationship, which is very cute.
Liorah’s love interest is called Ferran, and he’s the only person who can consistently put up with her XD He somehow manages to strike the balance between encouraging her chaos and keeping her from dying. That’s impressive in and of itself XD
However, it took me a lot of work to extract his backstory and personality from him, mostly because he kept changing. I think I’ve got an idea now, and I really like how it’s working out!
YESS! I get you!! I have no musical background whatsoeverā¦.and spent a great deal of time staring at the ceiling and mouthing rhymes to myselfā¦.
I played harp for like eight years, but I still can’t do it XD I have no idea how to bring poetry and music together, so I just settled for a few rhyming lines XD
(I would love to āhearā XD your verses if you ever want to share them by the way!)
Awesome, I’ll root around in my manuscript and see if I can dig them up!
Loll I just found a few places I just said “LYRIC” as a placeholder instead of writing anything XD
Okay here’s one of the verses, the one in my quote:
With the sunshine, shadows will come, and light seems far/ Without darkness, there is no light/ If there was no nighttime, would the dawn be as bright?/
That’s all I got XD I’m definitely neither a poet nor a songwriter XD
Nothing like a good battle for getting rid of a villain! Oh wow! 4 in 2 chapters!?!
I know, it was… eventful XD
That is a lot of symbolism but I love it!! I was wondering about your titleā¦.wow! That is SOO COOL!!! I love that you put a ābackground legendā into your story!!
Thank you! I actually have a LOT more symbolism, almost every character has some XD I find it extremely fun to write, and you can’t really have too much.
I really liked that too! There are a few more background legends in one or two cases, though they’re mostly framed as myths or fairytales! I found it really fun to figure out!
They just have no idea, do they?! And they canāt stop anything we do! And we can put them in some prettyā¦ummmā¦interesting circumstances, canāt we?
Exactly, poor characters XD
Thank you, Rose! Alright, I promise I wonāt come after you now! *put sword and bow & arrow away*
Oh thank goodness, I get to live and wreak havoc another day XD
I hope you enjoy itā¦..Ā And apologies in advance if Payton annoys you with his treatment of Ethan in the beginning. I couldnāt stop him, but trust me, I made sure he has CONSEQUENCES!!! By the way, if youāre going to read it, I can tell you *Ethanās* real name. Itās Nathan.
Oh, I will! And absolutely don’t worry about that, you have to let your characters make their mistakes and fall on their faces XD
Ohhh, I like that name even better! I also obscured and changed a few names, but I’m not telling you which ones š It would spoil a twist in book 1, in case you ever read it XD
Yes, I will too! I always work in Wordā¦.not Google Docsā¦.but when I get ready to send it your way we can work that out too!
Yep, we’ll find a solution to that!
Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?

@lady-graceYay! Bookworm/writer/Middle-Earth fanatics unite! š Oh yeah, once I pick up a bookā¦.wellā¦. I just get lost in my own worldā¦
If youāre a homeschooler then you can add that to the list of unitesš
Yes! Good bye world!! Iāll see you at 3am!! šTumnus is my baby! XD And my sister has a goat named Lucyā¦.
Now I want goats just so I can name themš¤£. Seriously though, thatās awesome.
Pippin!!! Definitely Pippin. 100%. All the way! XD After that itās pretty much which of the main characters I am reading about at the moment. (Except Frodo. Sorry buddy)
My brother is sooo Pip. @e-n-leonard is Frodo so I take any opportunities to act like Gollum and Shelob. I honestly donāt know why XD.
Who are your favorites?
Men: Aragorn and Ćowyn (Me and Ćowyn share personalitiesš)
Elves: Legolas, Galadriel, and Arwen.
Dwarves: yeah⦠only oneš Dear lil Gimli.
Hobbits: Probably Sam although he can be a little stupidš. (I was worried that he had killed Pip too)
I agree with Shadowfax wholeheartedly!
Spiders: The tiny one thatās so small itās never even mentioned š
Ummmā¦.never!?! Wait, your favorite died? Just died? ššš® Iām SOO SORRY!!! I havenāt killed anyone who didnāt deserve it yet. (AKA my villain) oh wait. I forgot, one of the older brotherās of my characters dies. But thatās before the story opened so it doesnāt really count.
š
Iāve killed.. my favorite and my MCās dad. He died before the book so it definitely doesnāt countš. Honestly, a dead parent is so common I didnāt want to do it but it kinda had to be done.I self-published A Journey to Unshakable Faith about⦠*stares at the wall, calculating* a year and a half ago? Donāt quote me on that though! XD It was so rewarding to actually have a copy of my book in my hands after all the time and work!
Thatās awesome that you published it! Now I want to go read itš
A long-hidden tale may hold the answers-and the healing-they so desperately seek.

@storysmithYes! Tolkien opened my eyes to a whole new world. Oh wow!! That does sound like quite an undertakingā¦. Are you planning on a particular number of books in your series? Do you plan on publishing it?
Yeah, it is but I can’t imagine a more exciting goal. So far I am guessing the first two series will be as long as the ranger’s apprentice that is 16 novels long……… that’s not including the side novels. XD Lol
Yessss! Lord willing I hope to publish it!
I love the plotline of your story; that sounds so cool! If you ever publish, I would be interested in reading it š Impending death to swallow them allā¦.**gulp** You have me hooked now
XD Lol Thanks! The scene I dream of writing one day, is when the princess of the purest white and blue armor and her mighty companions stand before the legions of darkness at the head of an ocean of bright fluttering banners and the myriad of glinting armor and weapons both on land and sky. It will be a battle of the land and sky that will go into the annuals history as the day, all good creatures and peoples united to follow a small young princess (my version of Joan of Arc) to victory. Her crown is the coolest design I could ever imagine and hope to it make it the most significant piece of her attire.
I throw them in prison and let them deal with it! XD Or in the case of my latest unruly character, Payton, since he never follows what I want, I just let him wander into trouble and take what he gets.
Lol yeah I sometimes feel guilty for my characters’ suffering as they do suffer for misbehaving but can be agonizing than I would wish on a real person for when they stand for what is right no matter the cost. However, it is often the truth for those who walk path of righteousness that is narrow and full of peril.
Yeah, writing takes preference! š The one thing I canāt draw is people so I canāt draw my characters unfortunately. Itās great that your sister can draw out your characters though! What kind of creatures do you have?
So far for races, I have humans, elves (who are split into several subgroups), badger like humanoids (my alternative for dwarves), Weasel/Wolverine like humanoids, fox/racoon like humanoids (my alternative for hobbits but borne fighters), giant toad like humanoids (not friendly and always hungry), Wild cat like humanoids, Wolf like humanoids, lab created mutants (serve as my orks/Urks), Giant humanoid Yeti/troll like creatures, Mutant assassins that are somewhat insectoid (they serve as my nazgul for their dark master), and a medium sized spiky creatures with sharp beaked mouths and long claws (they are my goblin alternative).
As for my creatures there are giant cats, giant wolves, dragons of land, sky, and sea, large to giant land and aquatic insect/crustaceans, giant sea serpents, giant ravens (my alternative to Lotr giant eagles, giant deer/elk with blade like horns (they are the shepherds of the wilds/forest), owl like gryphons, and plus several of my own original creatures. Several of these creatures can talk like those in Narnia and many others have their own intelligent languages.
I love the medieval time period! So all my stories come from that time period!! When I finish my story, I want to look for some beta readers and if you want to go over it, I would appreciate it!
Absolutely! I am learning to be better at critiquing but would be more than happy to read your story. I will also be in need of beta readers once I finish my first novel hopefully by early next year and would appreciate it if you could go over mine too.

A real hero remains accountable until the end.

@sydneyš yes, it is! And it works pretty well because Iām some mild form of pantser. I do have a current WIP as well as several books waiting to be written. My current one is a dystopian, and the others are one historical fiction and a bunch of (or really one very large) fantasies.
I’m a pantster too!! (Which doesn’t always work out in my favor, however…..) What is the plot for your WIP? I haven’t read much dystopian (CS Lewis’ Space trilogy, not sure if that counts or not?) but I would be interested to hear about yours!!! š
Thatās okay! And Iād like to read itā¦thanks for no spoilersā¦and Iām sorry (?) about your favorite character.
Oh you really should! The style is a lot different that LOTR but the world of Middle Earth is still there so I love it! You’re welcome! It’s okay….I think? Extremely sad but then again I like sad stories…. (Is like the right word?)
Pippin is actually pretty similar to my little brother, so needless to say Iāve got a rather soft spot for the character even if I find him a little annoying š
Aaaaw I love that!!! šššš How many siblings do you have? I’m in an all-girl house, I have two sisters.
