Hi, my name is Betty Wojtowicz and I live in Soddy Daisy, TN (just outside of Chattanooga) with my husband and our kitties. I’m writing my first book, a western historical romance. I’m looking to forge new relationships with other writers and learn as much as I can about improving my writing.

Hi Betty! I’m Rose, pleased to meet you!

I’m writing my first book, a western historical romance.

Ooohhh, that’s so exciting! The first story is always special, though it can also be just ridiculously hard to write, or at least, it was for me 😀

I write YA fantasy, I’m working on a trilogy! I’m so, so close to finishing book 3, and then I have a whole lot of revising to do!

What is your favorite part of your current project? Who is your favorite character, and why?

Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?

Kate’s my favorite character. I put a lot of myself into her – the stubbornness and independent spirit. I used to have a strong fear of commitment, but then I met my husband! Same as Kate. I enjoyed getting my ideas down into the manuscript.

Hello, Betty! Welcome to SE! I’m Erynne (pronounced Erin) and I am literally insane 🙂

Most people here are, so there’s your warning. It’s nothing but chaos on this side of the internet.

I’m writing my first book, a western historical romance.

    Oh, that sounds super cool!

I am currently working on contemporary romance about a girl who lived a terrible life, but cleaned herself up, but refused to get involved with anyone due to her misbelief on how romantic relationships work. Then “prince charming” comes along and I’m sure you know what happens after that 🙂

There is somewhat of a mystery in it because she lies to the guy 10000% about her past then it literally shows up on her doorstep one day to bite her in the butt.

It’s just something I’m working on until I get out of school and can focus on my distopian book.

What are some of your favorite romances you’ve read or seen?

    Good to meet you!

Hi, Erynne. Nice to meet you! I’m a bit on the nutty side myself, so I should fit in well.

My favorite romance is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I’ve read it several times. I also enjoyed the Texas Legacy series by DiAnn Mills. I’ve enjoyed every DiAnn Mills book I’ve read. They’re not romances, but I love the Bregdan Chronicles by Ginny Dye. My favorite type of books to read are action/adventure. Ernest Dempsey is my favorite author, followed closely by Clive Cussler.

    Your book sounds interesting.

    Have a great day!

Hi, Erynne. Nice to meet you! I’m a bit on the nutty side myself, so I should fit in well.

That’s required around here. Look out, and don’t forget to watch behind your shoulder. That’s the best advice I could possibly give to anyone trying to survive around here.

I believe I’ve heard of Redeeming Love, but I’ve never read it. I read a western romance once and absolutely loved it! I’d like to find more Christian romances to read. It’s such a tricky genre for me to write sometimes, but I’ve also never read a Christian romance, so I don’t have much to go off of.

    Your book sounds interesting.

Thanks! I want it to be over with so I can start editing it and cringing at my awful writing!! XD

Just so you know, if you’re talking to someone, it’s best to tag them like I did above and @rose-colored-fancy did. You may have figured that out already, but I just wanted to tell you in case you didn’t 🙂

It took me ages to figure out all the fancy buttons around here. Craziness.

    Hi Betty (@bettywoj)

I’m Brian.  Like Erynne said, we are the “good kind” of crazy around here.

Scripture says (Titus 2:14 & 1 Peter 2:9) we are a “peculiar people” and I am totally embracing that. 😁

My mom loved reading Christian historical romances, but her wayward son (me) currently writes fantasy, sci-fi, and some biblical historical stories. [Not published yet (in book form), but I am sure I will find some way to get my atrocious writing out there to generate lots of eye-rolling in the reading public.]

If my books are terrible, at least I know the general public who eventually buys them will have a particular option for one of my eventually printed books when the next pandemic toilet paper shortage hits. 😂

I recently lost my mom, so I am re-thinking my aversion to writing romance.  My wife might say, I don’t qualify, but she teases me too, so I am not sure whether she is being led by the Spirit or led by the jest, when she tells me that.

I must’ve been romantic enough to get her interest because we have now been happily married for 22 years. So there’s that. 😉

God is the ultimate lover of our souls, so He gets romance and values it, so who am I to make any less of it.

I grew up with a love for the rugged Old West.  Louis L’Amour was one of my favorites.  He did put romance in his stories too.  Pioneer women were tough, and he treated his female characters with respect and depth and I always admired that.

For those of you who write romance, I may need some of your insights, when I finally do write a romance, so we need more of your input here.

I like to blend writing genres, so I may bring more romance into my fantasy or sci-fi stories, and I would value your perspective in that too.

Love is at the heart of what we do.  It is one of the ways, God defines Himself.

Agape love (unconditional love) is foundational to all other aspects of love: phileo, eros, storage.  It is what gives the others meaning and value, and stability.  I am exploring this idea through fantasy and a certain degree of symbolism, but I only address the “romantic” aspect in the second book.

I would love to hear more about what you are working on and how you view the respectful and valuable interplay of men and women in a God-honoring fashion.  The world gets it wrong and I applaud those faith writers who have the fortitude and courage to show how it should be done.

Welcome to this fun and crazy family of creatives who seek first to honor God in all we do!

Erynne, thanks for letting me know about how to tag. I wasn’t aware of that. How do I do that?

I’ve requested quotes for a developmental edit for my manuscripts. Heard back from one already; waiting for the other quotes.

You mentioned school and finals. What are you studying? I’m studying web development and painting with Udemy classes. Keeps this old brain active!

Do you know if we’re allowed to request beta readers on this forum? I’m not ready yet, but wanted to know.

    Blessed day to you!

I’d forgotten the scriptures about being a peculiar people. Good thought!

I’m sorry about losing your mother. Losing your parents is tough. It does get a little easier as time passes.

I’d say if you want to try your hand at writing romance, go for it! Most of my reading is action/adventure. I don’t want to write that because there’s violence and people end up getting killed. So, I’ll stick with my romances. It’s a fun genre to write.

I’m still a newbie writer, but I’d be happy to help in any way I can with advice on romance. My MC, Kate, struggles with opening her heart after being hurt. It’s something I struggled with for many years, and my husband, Jon, resolved that issue! I had to move clear across the state of Ohio to meet the love of my life. One of the best decisions I ever made! Who knew that was how God would choose to put him in my life? He certainly works in strange and mysterious ways!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

I see I’m late and you’ve already figured out what you’re doing 😂

I am just working my way through high school at the moment. I’m homeschooled, and I’ve let myself get behind a bit.

I am going to hopefully start a college leveled program for culinary here in a year or two. If the world hasn’t ended by then, that is.

After I get out of school, I hope to find a Christian college and use my scholarship to go into some business and marketing classes! I love school, so I’m quite excited to go to college.

Do you paint, or am I reading that wrong?

You sure can request betas! There isn’t much you aren’t allowed to do around here. You should see what some of us have gotten away with!

Hi, Erynne! Been busy this week and haven’t been on the forum.

I’m happy you’re starting writing while you’re still young. Still in high school, huh?! So happy that is many years behind me. It wasn’t a great experience. I am grateful for all my experiences, though, for they’ve made me the person I am today. Far from perfect, but most importantly, forgiven!

I am learning acrylic painting. I’m taking a Udemy class that’s taught me a lot. It’s a bit frustrating right now. I’ll work through it, though, and get this grapefruit painting finished. After I finish the class, I can start painting whatever I want. Just have to finish. I think painting an opened grapefruit is weird, but I suppose the techniques I’m learning are necessary building blocks. I want to paint something fun, like flowers or kitties!

    Have a good weekend!

    Hey Bettty! Sorry I’m late.

    Yes ma’am! I am 15 (and a half) years old 🙂

I am one of the younger ones here. Most people here are about 17 or 18.

Amen! So far I’ve been good, and I intend on keeping it that way.

Lovely! I am a self taught oil painter. I would love to be taught how to actually paint so it looks better, but so far Bob Ross tutorials on YouTube is the most training I’ve had, haha.

I love painting scenery, but I’d love to be able to do flowers and potraits. One of these days I’ll have to dive into trying to learn all of that. I’m not sure I could even do an opened grapefruit, so you’re ahead of me there 😂

    Have a good night!
