1. Be constructive. This is a forum focused on storytelling; look for ways to help other members. Never demean, insult, or give unhelpful criticism to another user.
2. Be involved. The forum is a community, and a community can only exist if its members are active in reaching out and helping each other. Don’t be afraid to comment or share your work. We love when you’re involved.
3. Stay focused. We love lightheartedness and friendship, but we don’t want this forum to become another distraction from your writing. Please refrain from posting anything that would waste your own or others’ time, and try to keep discussions centered on the topic of storytelling. Spamming is prohibited.
4. Be uplifting. Foul language is strictly forbidden. We want to honor God in everything we do, so all our words should be edifying. When in doubt, side with being conservative or ask an admin.
Do not post any story, image, or video that could be considered obscene or excessively gruesome. Only post images you would be comfortable with a young child viewing. Our primary goal should be to reflect the light of Christ, not the darkness and bondage of not knowing Him. Stories posted on the forum should meet our submission guidelines. Stories that do not meet our submission guidelines may be linked to as long as adequate content warnings are given.
5. Be considerate. Tagging members is allowed, but please only tag members who are relevant to the current discussion. You may tag up to 12 members in a post, but you must receive permission from one of our moderators to tag more people than that.
6. Don’t self-promote. We don’t allow users to advertise their own services unless the natural course of the conversation prompts it (e.g., someone asks for a good cover designer, so you mention your cover design gig). We are happy, however, for active members to share about the books they’ve recently released in a friendly, non-pushy manner.
By creating an account on our site, you agree to follow these guidelines and uphold these standards at all times.
If the Story Embers team sees a violation of these rules, they will issue a warning. A second offense will result in a month-long suspension from the forum. A third offense will result in permanent expulsion. The Story Embers team reserves the right to permanently expel any member at any time.

September 23, 2019 at 12:10 am #97557Anonymous@daeus-lamb I just want to say… reading the guidelines… this part:
“Only post what you would be comfortable with a young child viewing.”
Is like wow… I guess… yeah I won’t be posting my writings here. Because I would be fine if teenagers seeing it, but a child? No. I’m glad I checked this out.
September 23, 2019 at 11:08 am #97566Daeus Lamb@daeus-lamb@futuro Hmm. I believe that line was intended mainly for images, but it’s been so long I can’t say for sure.
@josiah, do you remember?September 23, 2019 at 4:58 pm #97581Anonymous@daeus-lamb Okay, I can see that being it. But you guys ( @daeus-lamb and @josiah ) know more than me about the rules.

June 6, 2020 at 4:09 pm #114432Ella@writergirl101Can I copy and paste links to soundtracks on Spotify or websites (e.g. 16personalities.com)? All appropriate, of course, because the songs are just trailer music. For the websites, they would all be character creation-based. Just checking.

June 19, 2021 at 12:34 pm #134854Brian Stansell@obrian-of-the-surface-worldHi Daeus,
There are some posts missing in the Forums. Not sure if it is a tech glitch or some have been removed for editorial purposes or the content did not align with the guidelines.
I did ask a question on here that I do not see, but it was regarding posting a shared MP3 link to a file in a Google Doc folder, for a scene audio clip.
On Tue 6/15/2021 6:43 PM you replied: “@obrian-of-the-surface-world Yes, go ahead!”
I was wondering if this is still okay and if there is something in my User profile preventing me from starting a Topic in the Forums?
I was thinking about starting one called “Audio Cinema” and challenging my fellow writers to read & record a short scene of their WIPs and post a link to listen under the text of their scene. I know personally that I get myopic in my writing when I only “hear” my work in my head. Sometimes performing it into a recording (using a smartphone and an audio memo feature) allows me to step back from it and listen to it as it might be read. I can see what seems to work and what “sounds off” more clearly. It also allows me to rework the scene so that it flows more naturally, with the added benefit of role-playing and experimenting with my characters’ voices.
I thought it might be fun to try this with my fellow writers in the Forum. Post the text and a clip and “see” how it sounds, with a follow-up set of Q & A to the listeners.
I used to make a weekly 80-mile commute, and recorded much of my WIP to listen to “on the road”. I had a Google Audio Voice read it first, but have recently been recording it in my own “character voices” with sound effects and background music to bring in the atmospheric experience, much like a dramatic audiobook does. The Audio Cinema might be a fun and developmental exercise that helps us writers employ more of our senses when approaching our gift’s expression.
Here are the “template” questions I envisioned to pair with each participant writer’s offering. Please review below and tell me what you think. Is this a workable idea? I do not want to do anything that is not authorized or under authority. I defer to whatever is acceptable to your team. I love and pray for you all.
Scene Questions
1. Is there anything that stood out to you as intriguing about this scene?
2. What would you say the mood was of this scene?
3. What character(s) in this scene would you like to know more about?
4. Which character, if any, do you feel the most empathy toward in this scene alone?
5. Which of the following, as a reader, do you wish I had developed more fully in this scene?
a. Setting
b. Character thoughts and motivations
c. Character appearance and/or mood expressions
6. Do you feel that the dialogue in this scene flows or is mechanical and stilted?
7. Did you learn something in this scene that you wondered about in a previous scene?
8. Did this scene make you want to read more scenes? (Why or why not?)
9. Is there any part of the scene that you personally felt did not belong?
10. What, if anything, would you change about this scene to make it more interesting to you?

June 22, 2021 at 7:31 pm #134967Brian Stansell@obrian-of-the-surface-worldHi Daeus,
Seems like the tech glitches are resurfacing. Did someone pour water on a Gremlin?
I had a post in the Forum that disappeared when I clicked the submit button. Just wondering if these were going into a filter holding before they are posted. I know WordPress has a kind of Approver queue, so I didn’t know if some might be held there until the Webmaster reviews and releases them.Is there any update on the potential for the “Audio Cinema” idea mentioned in my prior post on June 19, 2021 at 12:34 pm?

If a post disappears after it was published, that’s weird, but we have had posts disappear when posted before, so I doubt it has anything to do with our new server.
Your audio cinema idea should be fine.

That is probably what happened with one of my posts. I had wanted to put in a quote from something else and I think the form got tired of waiting on me to find it. 🙂
I did have two prior posts that were published disappear, but I think those were impacted by the server cut-over.
I guess I would have a correlated email somewhere that would contain the responses, so I think I’m good on that.
Appreciate your help!
Have a very blessed day!
My “Audio Cinema” post is now up. Thank you for that. [*bows respectfully*]
