Next is a game that my family used to play every time the power went out. I thought it would work well with Story Embers.

    Next is very simple.

    1. You may only add one sentence.

    2. Your sentence must relate to what has already been written.

    And that’s it.

So, here is the first sentence, for those who would like to play. 🙂

The rain spattered clumsily against the yellowed glass, performing a broken symphony just for him.

He sat alone, eyes tracing along the small tears, the home cried.

He had stood the fury of the storm, but loneliness was a force that could break a man.

Lighting roared, a blinding flash of white, splitting a lusty pine down the core.

Not all those who wander are lost.

He could only stare in horror as the charred trunk of the pine bent, and then fell, hurtling straight for the window.

He let out a cry, legs bolting him from his seat, for the first time in a time.

The pine smashed through the wall and sent shards of jagged glass whizzing through the air.

He threw his arms over his face as glass and bits of wood rained down on him.

    Courage, dear heart.

William let out a cry as one the projectiles sliced through the ink scrawled across his wrist.

A jagged cut formed between the two words he had written on his wrist just earlier that day as he’d sat gazing out of the window: Never Alone.

But as the blood smeared the writing into a stream of ghastly red and black, he felt very much alone.

I light the arrow, pull the bow,
Shoot that fire right through my soul.

For a moment, he considered tearing back out into the woods.

But the only thing worse than being alone was being cold, wet, and alone.
