Logan took a deep breath and shifting Rhioe’s weight slightly on his back. He was in this deep. He had no choice now but to tell her.
“You- you look a lot like someone I knew. . . my sister actually.” he sighed heavily. Tears flooded his eyes and he was glad Rhioe couldn’t see them. He blinked hard and continued. His voice shook slightly, but he steadied it, “There was a fire. It happened a few years ago, before I joined the police force.” He paused again and swallowed. His throat felt so tight and dry. “My sister was killed. I was there and – when I saw you. . .” he couldn’t go on.
